"Ridiculous proportions"... my ex girlfriend was built like her, she never looked ridiculous, or even Dolly Parton-esque. Let's be honest, everybody loves breasts, whether they're attached to us or to other people, we're all pretty much fans, so i don't get the issue. If they sell comic book let's call it harmless eye candy. If there are issues of objectification I can assure you that most women do it to themselves to a greater degree than men could possibly achieve via comic book artistry, or any other medium for that matter. This isn't my attempt at excusing or supporting Power Girl's appearance, but more a stance against her detractors, or at least those that speak out against how she's depicted.

To be a bit facetious, I'm not sure I understand the problem. I like boobs, Powergirl has enough to feed a regiment and she has her own comic for people to read/ogle.

But there's nothing in the rulebooks that says DC can't also publish 'The Sensible Adventures of a Modestly Dressed Woman of Average Proportions With a Respectable Day Job That She Completely Deserves Who Never Gets Married or Kidnapped or Asks a Man for Help Unless She Later Helps Him Out in Return and Has a Discreet Sex Life That Either Definitely Includes Women or Totally Doesn't Because That's Just Fanservice, Boys, Grow Up, and She Has a Healthy Relationship With Her Father Because Daddy Issues Are Over. Also She May or May Not Have Superpowers But Either Way She Did It on Her Own.' Granted I wouldn't read that comic because it sounds terrible, but maybe there's an audience out there for that one.
Good one. I'd like to add that they could likewise do the same for male heroes, rather than making them bulge out everywhere in colorful unitards.

The main disease of the comic books - they stopped making sense a long time ago!

The problem, like Bob has said, is that EVERY WOMAN is bag of issues and objectified without a thought to the appeal or empathy of females. Or at least a promiment amount. To the point girls getting into nerdy things without being social outcasts or validating nerdom is being met with professional scorn.

Mind there is a point where you can't hide moral authority and its enforcement behind the best of feminism. That is declaring something sexist being like its heretical and thus worthy of scorn as all who support it. Even if that's necessary don't then switch to this ludicrious stance of all feminism being an open conversation for the betterment of mankind for both genders. The problem is that would envolve daring to engage in conversation with the assumption the other side doesn't want superemacy and conceding you power and neither 'side' finds that, at best, desirable to just being able to go my standards are right and my will be done.

I think "bag of issues" characters stand out in stark contrast (for better or worse) because comic book characters are typically very bland and flat in terms of personality. The only difference between the male and female characters is one group is sexually objectified. But at least female heroes usually have personal issues beyond "my girlfriend might get hurt".

Face it, internet; comics are the OG version of Twilight, a male version of romance fiction that sells by the boatload without relying on things like quality writing or interesting characters. They're fantasy vessels for us to dress up and pretend like we're Spider-man, beating the piss out of Doc Ock, just like prepubescent girls fantasize about being Bella, kissing the shit out of Edward. Most heroes are morally upright do-gooders who's only moral quandry usually comes in "what if I hurt the one's I love by continuing to do this awesomely righteous thing set by arbitrary standards?" Nothing of consequence ever happens because if either heroes or villains ever truly died that would mean a drop in sales. So let's stop pretending like there's only ONE issue with comics that needs to be fixed.

But like I said, that's MOST comics. I'm sure there's third party books that don't have the same trappings as the big name brands, but then you'll rarely see the internet talking about those.

Wasn?t earth 2 basically just the golden age versions of the characters or am I mistaken.

Yeah that images sums up the dark age pretty well besides any cover drawn by rob liefeld its that.

Power girl sounds like a pretty lame character she?s walking fan service with the feminist excuse but maybe I?m wrong.

Yay Powergirl! I've been waiting since last week to see this video. Very sad that I have to wait another week to see another one, but happy that there will be another one.
I've always liked Powergirl, but it took me forever to figure out who she was. I was only familiar with her from movies and a few comics. So, I always just thought of her as Supergirl grown up--which she technically is I suppose. And the reason why I like her, as I like Supergirl too. I liked the joke about her 'figure' in "Batman/Superman: Public Enemies." The one where the boy uses his see-through tech to, well, see through her outfit.
Amazing joke regarding the Amazons and Wonder Woman. Simply amazing.

I respect it when characters are fleshed out and they're seen as people, not "ooohhh yeah I want me some of that" kind of models. Thanks for having this shown to us Movie Bob, I will check in next time to see what's going to happen. If I ever got into the DC comics business, I want to make a female character who was remembered for her talents and personality, not 'the boob windows are flashing'.
But do keep in mind that eye candy is always, always welcome as the icing on the cake of personality/talents :)

I usually get annoyed when someone tries to tease and buy my interests out with implications of sex and female body parts... but... Damn she's got a nice rack... Damn!

The new PG is kind of...annoying.

I miss the PG of V2 where she not only kicked some MAJOR ass, she also founded a company and used her connections to make the world a better place though SCIENCE.

That acknowledgement that 'my fists can't solve everything' is something you RARELY see out of most of these 'demigods'.

It's funny that while I was reading comics for years and somehow my brain absorbed this stuff pretty easily during that time, but once I stopped and then try to figure out what happened since then my brain now goes "OW OW NO MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOP!!!"

:p

Sigh...... i don't know i kind of expected Bob to explain more about power girl, how many different versions of power girl there had been but it's ok i guess.

Yes the new 52 PG it's not the same PG we love, and it's not only because the costume which is horrible.... but the personality and the background changed to much , same happened to huntress, George Perez is killing PG........ i loved the Conner/Gray/Palmiotti Power Girl, she was funny and interesting, and even if it was to serious i still enjoyed the Winick/Prasetya, i think they should retire George Perez xD i also hated his art style in the new 52 Super Man. ohhh by the way...

I can't read modern comics that is published outside of Vertigo. It's basically just hyperbole and softcore porn. I just don't care for it any longer. I got actual, real porn online.
Hear that, authors? EVERYONE CAN LOOK UP PORN ANYTIME THEY WANT NOW! YOU CAN STOP DRAWING THAT SHIT!.

Funniest thing about boob window?

I've seen a real one. Recently I've seen a woman wearing a turtleneck sweater with a boob window. A fellow worker claims a friend of hers has it. Think she said Old Navy was selling them, but could be wrong there...

We could make these comic book storyline into a drinking game.

Every time they reboot the thing - drink.
They kill someone - drink.
They bring them back to life - drink.

Lets think up more.
