When I went to see Guardians, about half the theatre stayed for the after-credits scene. Of the people who stayed, I'm fairly certain I was the only one who recognized Howard the Duck. That made me sad...

Really? I thought everyone had seen that Nostalgia Critic episode and knew who Howard was.
That's were I heard about him.

OT: I cracked up at the end of GotG, my brother did not, what i'm curious to know is what he said during the end credits scene.

Someone would be pissed apparently?

That better damn not be a 1-off, throw-away joke ending. That shit's canon, they better be making a Howard the Duck for wave 4.

I recognised Howard the Duck without having seen the film, and I found it funny...but then dreaded what could be due to having knowledge of the 1986 film and the fact that it's a freaking DUCK. I'm hoping he's just gonna be a supporting character and that he doesn't get a standalone film: I don't think I'd be able to persuade anyone to come and see a Howard the Duck film with me.

"Who was that at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy?" ...Is that a trick question? Well, I guess Howard the Duck is fairly obscure by today's standards, despite there being a movie made out of him, and having the Nostalgia Critic review said movie. Not to mention, MovieBob's talked about him at least once before, specifically in his Top 10 things he'd like rebooted. Speaking of which, yes Bob, PLEASE, make a Big Picture episode about the Howard the Duck movie!!!

Also, fans have been saying you can see the "Cocoon" of Adam Warlock opened in the background of that final scene. Is that true?

BTW, am I the only one who thinks the Howard model at the end of Guardians looks uglier than the midget suit from the 90s movie?
Frankly they're both very off-putting, but the one in Guardians just looked really bad compared the beautiful CG in the rest of the movie. Like somebody slapped it together in the 11th hour just to get it done. I really hope it was just a one-time joke and we never see that abomination return. If I was going to flat out skip an MCU movie, it'd be Howard the Duck.

I just listened to a podcast on Empire that featured James Gunn. He confirmed it was Adam Warlock's cocoon.

Well Bob, I'd certainly be up for a big picture episode on the vagaries of the Howard the Duck movie. You have a knack for making obscure ephemera really interesting, and I always love your film examinations.
If he decides to move ahead with it, all he'll have to do is just change the vocal track on this because he already put in a full shows worth of clips.

Nice! :D

...Wonder if that will come into play in Guardians of the Galaxy 2...

+1 the Howard The Duck episode.

Your analysis/insight into schlocky/too weird movies is always welcome, especially for Howard, considering it would barely pass for a B movie >.>

The only thing that reminds me of that Howard the Duck movie was:

Duck Tits! Woo Hoo!!

Other than that, my friends and I were laughing our asses off at that end-credit bonus... and then proceeded to only laugh harder when this one kid(?) in the theater yelled out "Who the fuck is that?"

Both the Nostalgia Critic and SF Debris have done reviews of Howard the Duck. SF Debris's review is better if you want some of the behind the scenes problems and less just screaming (as much as I do love the NC)

The Howard the Duck movie is one of my true guilty pleasures in movies and I will put it on about once a year to watch it. That said, if Marvel wanted to try it again? That'd be freaking awesome. I think there is a respect level in the MCU for the source material that didn't exist before it and a new HtD movie might be a good sleeper hit for them.

edit: How could I leave out this?

HELL YES we want an episode about the Howard The Duck movie!!!

Lea Thompson at her hottest... and a few other actors, some cheesy claymation and a midget in a duck costume. What's not to love? :)

[Still looking for the (mythical?) Cherry Bomb album...]

Who's the Nostalgia Critic?

Nice episode. I, too, would love to see an episode of TBP on the movie in question.

Dangit I woulda bet good money this weeks would have been about the scare with Studio Ghibli closing down... But I'll +1 the idea of going into more detail with good ol Howard the duck's old movie. Would be interesting to find out if there is ANY trivia or nuanced hidden stuff in it I missed. :)

"Howard the Duck" remains the only movie my family ever rented and then stopped before watching all the way through- and we scraped some barrels in our video rental habits.

I don't need to be reminded of it, thanks. The character might have some interesting history; the movie was shit. Utter, utter shit.
