The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Reveals "Battle Focus"

"Battle Focus" is how you'll lead your squad of grizzled FBI agents against a remorseless enemy with overwhelming technical superiority in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.

The fast cuts in this trailer make it tricky to tell precisely how it will work, but the radial menu on display in this trailer for third-person tactical shooter The Bureau: XCom Declassified looks straightforward and simple enough to be effective in the heat of battle. More interestingly, it also makes The Bureau appear very much more like a conventional XCom game, with relatively detailed squad management playing a potentially vital role in your battle against alien invaders.

It's a big change from the XCom shooter as it was originally presented, which appeared to be a fairly conventional first-person affair, although as noted in our May preview [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/10328-The-Bureau-XCOM-Declassified-Preview] the truly unsocial among you will probably be able to blast through most of the game Gears-style, without bothering with teammates. I'm a little surprised by the presence of friendly laser turrets, given the era in which the game is set, but it's nice to see that even when you're squaring off against alien invaders from beyond the moon, you can still get the job done by socking someone in the jaw.

The Bureau: XCom Declassified is scheduled to launch on August 20 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Looks interesting. Has a bit of Mass Effect (which isn't a bad thing if you're commanding more guys).

This looks like it could be amazing if it works well. I eagerly anticipate its release and seeing how it fares.

Some good gameplay footage on Kotaku - the link to a `12 minute clip on FB. So looking forward to this game, i loved Xcom and the remake, but I think this will add something new. Fans of the original should see it as that because their original xcom is untouched. An hopefully, The Bureau could lead to some new gamers finding xcom. An thats a good thing.

I want this game to be a success. Squad shooters, like the original Xcom, are an endangered species on the brink of extinction. If Xcom can lend itself to reviving both it's own genre and the tactical squad genre then would that not be the best thing ever?

I'm seriously warming to this game. It looks like IP extension done right cf. Syndicate. I can see a squad based FPS happily co-existing with the traditional TBS. Winners all round.

Looks friggen awesome. I just hope you HAVE to command your squad mates in a strategic manner instead of being able to blaze through the game without having to use them.

This does actually look pretty good. It seems about as close to X Com as a third person shooter could get, or at least an effort to do as such and it looks pretty fun. I may have a hard time deciding what game to get on the 20th of August now.
