That is indeed hard to believe, since South Park lost its charm after season 10 and just turned into 'Randy is bumbling cartoon dad #749'.
Its hard for me to get back into South Park after that Godawful season post Cthulhu/Mysterion/The Coon season.
Its been hit or miss for me. Some of the episodes, like the school shooting and manbearpig or the mr hankey have been great. The others, eh? Kinda lackluster. Going after vaping in the same season as school shootings seems like a step backwards. Also maybe because I'm not a teen or don't live on the coast, but the vape pens and eScooters just aren't a thing where I live. I have no reference point. I'm sure out in Los Angeles there are tons of both, but in the subs of St. Louis? Nah.
While that was a rough period, even most of the SP's lackluster or bad episodes are still better than Family Guy's. At least Matt and Trey try. They might not always stick the landing, but they usually try. Seth and his writing staff, they're stuck on auto with the same interchangeable jokes, and turning every part of the cast in to unsympathetic twats. Not to mention, they suck at being preachy and acting like they have "morals". Also, someone on the writing staff has a hate boner for Disney.Casual Shinji said:
EDIT: From what I remember it's because one of their writers left work on Disney shows (one of them being Phineas & Ferb). Disney offerred him a huge amount and it was his goal, so how could the guy refuse. Ever since then, FG went twice as hard on the Disney bashing, because one of their better writers chose to leave for something different. I would have made the same choice.
South Park can still make me laugh, Family Guy I have nothing, but scorn with the exception of the early seasons.
This season of South Park has been good so far; especially compared to the last couple of seasons.
South Park, like the Simpsons, is so far past its peak it should probably be euthanised. And let's add in Family Guy and American Dad! (holy crap, that's still going as well??) whilst we're at it.
In fact, just about the last joke in the Simpson I recall as funny was where they went to Italy and a policeman looks through a book with pictures of crimes, and it shows Family Guy as "plagiarismo" and American Dad! as "plagiarismo di plagiarismo".

They've managed to stay relevant and keep the show going strong for over 20 years now. Looks like the only one here trying to be edgy is you. The rest of us simply enjoy a really well made show.jademunky said:

South Park I actually did respect, but it's become so bloody obnoxious now it's unbearable for me to watch. Not that the show ever had much subtlety to speak of, but it used to have a delightful charm to it. It did its own thing, used its visual style for comedy terrifically, and wasn't so eager on chasing current events. Whenever I catch older episodes on TV, like when the boys play junior detective, or even older ones when they go to the rainforrest, I'm shocked at how far this show has crawled up its own butt.
I think the last episode that I legitimately liked was where Stan gets a Facebook account. After that it's been nothing but pain.
South Park can still pull out some good moments, funny or otherwise. Long running series all suffer aging but they've handled it with a degree of grace.[footnote]if you can say they do anything with grace[/footnote] Stick of Truth rocked, I haven't looked into their latest game. They still have things happening in worthwhile directions, even if some things (PC Principal grates me if his screentime is high in an episode, memberberries were annoying, etc) don't really work for me.
The acid test is comparing it to The Simpsons in watchability for me. I still enjoy tuning into South Park. Modern Simpsons is a groaner and not for the 'jokes'.

How you feel about SP is how I feel about FG. Family Guy really started crawling up their ass around the end of Season 6, and definitely at the beginning of Season 7. By the time the 8th season came around, I could barely get through 2 episodes, and I decided no more. Plus, I hate how the series treats Meg. The writer claim they don't how to write a teenage girl, but that makes all the abuse on her tiring, unfunny, and inexcusable. If a bunch Disney shows (animated or otherwise) and anime in general gets this mostly right, why can' you fuck nuts do it. If I ever see clip that is not from the early days, I don't get a chuckle; all I do is scorn or get an apathetic grunt. If I need random humor that badly I'd just watch something else on Youtube, watch Panty & Stocking, or sooner watch Drawn Together. Not the movie, it sucks real bad and is too vulgar by my standards. A Family Guy is just as guilty in following trends; more so by my count. Look at almost any episode past season 6. Their show is built on nothing pop-culture references or "parodying" memes that were already outdated or gotten old as soon as they picked it up. The only difference is that characters became more unlikeable and preachy, while having the gall to act like they have the fucking high ground. I don't need a cast of people that have become bitches in a box stand.Casual Shinji said:

Disney is also just an easy target, like making fun of Jesus (something Family Guy also likes doing quite a lot); It's done from a place of trying to be controversial, eventhough it'll cause the least amount of stir.CoCage said:

Easily the best season for a decade, and their quick production time means they can do very topical stuff, like school shootings and vaping and Red Dead Redemption, but it still feels tame.
