I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this thought but, what if it's the biggest troll.
What if gearbox have no intention of releasing the game?

I'm deadly serious, it kinda makes sense in a weird way. (But not financially, because they could release anything at this point and move about over 9000 units per store on release day.)

I don't care either way personally, but would you ever buy a game from the companies (publishers developers etc.) involved with the troll if this happened?

Would you write angry letters?

Would you hold public protests?

Would you foam at the mouth?

Would you just lol?

I'm also pretty curious to see how many people have thought this before now?

Also, I'm pretty sure they'll "cancel" it at some stage as a troll. (was expecting that on April 1st tbh)

I loved Duke Nukem 3D, but I'm not drooling for the sequel. So it wouldn't especially bother me, and I would respect the effort Gearbox had gone through just to take the piss.

Yeah, I'd buy a game from them if they did that, why not? A cruel sense of humour doesn't mean they're bad developers.

Well since insane bankruptcy is the only possible outcome of that situation, I don't see the entire staff of Gearbox volunteering to be homeless just for Teh Lulz.

If it did happen? I had no intention of getting Duke Nukem but I do have a first access pass since I have a copy of borderlands. Maybe it will change my mind, maybe it won't.

I'd say that is understandable but a little unfair. The biggest issue with DNF was a perfectionist attitude and no one whipping the production into the release date mode. Same kind of thing as the Oscar's "Best Director's Curse". When a director makes a Best Director movie it's usually because he had to fight and compromise to get the movie made and, post Oscar, studios will just hurl bags of cash at them and say "do whatever you want"... then you get Zardoz (Google it but probably best not to do so at work).

A small part of me wants it to happen "for the lulz" but I would feel bad for all the people who've been let down.

For example a couple of my mates are way too exited about it for their own good.
They'd be crushed if it was all a big joke.
There's no way it could possibly be as good as they're saying it's going to be anyway so I think they'll be let down regardless. But hey, that's their prerogative.

I'm not actually that psyched for DNF myself, but any developer that would do that to fans that have waited so long and already been let down so many times would obviously have an arsehole level to shame both EA and Activision combined, so I'd think twice before I bought anything from them certainly.

Sure, I'm excited and want DNF, but if it's a massive troll, than I'm just gonna sit back and laugh at the ensuing backlash.

Though... that's likely not going to happen. So I'm just gonna get and enjoy Duke Nukem like I did when I was younger.
