The Elder Scrolls: Legends Card Game Beta Launches with New Trailer

The new Elder Scrolls free-to-play card game is entering closed beta, and you can sign up to play.

If you can't get enough Elder Scrolls, or you're really into card games, Bethesda may have something that's right up your alley. The company has just announced the launch of The Elder Scrolls: Legends beta.

Legends is a new free-to-play strategy card game developed by Dire Wolf Digital and published by Bethesda. It's based on the Elder Scrolls series, and includes characters, creatures, and lore from those games.

If you like what you see, you can head over to the game's official site [https://legends.bethesda.net/] for more information, and to sign up for the beta. If you happen to be at PAX East this weekend, you can check out the game at Bethesda's booth on the show floor.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is planned for PC and iPad, with other platforms to be announced later.

The card design/UI looks pretty ugly. I still don't get why they're trying to compete with Hearthstone like this. I love TES, but who asked for a TES card game of all things?

So they couldn't beat Blizzard on the MMO front so now they try to do it on the CCG front?
Elder Scrolls MOBA when?

Because Hearthstone prints money.

So, if I use a card with the "Fus Ro Dah" shout power, does that mean a giant air horn gets used on the field, blowing all the cards away in every direction?

OT: Sounds neat, but I'm guessing this will go the path of the LotR card game and be irrelevant within a year or so.

I dunno, this thing seems to be getting a lot of hate but as someone who used to play an absolute tonne of Hearthstone, Blizz could do with some decent competition on the online CCG front. Though this is almost definitely a cash grab on the TES franchise because Hearthstone is just making Blizz so much money for very little effort but maybe it'll be ok? I guess? I mean i'll probably give it a try for a week or so. It could stand to not look almost identical in UI to Hearthstone though, I mean yeah it's a Hearthstone inspired cash grab but you could at least try to make it look different.

I was never fully into the Elder Scrolls games though so maybe i'm more optimistic than most.

They wanna legitimize that lawsuit with Mojang a few years back.

I think a lot of people don't understand the difference between Bethesda the developer and Bethesda the publisher. A lot of people seem to think this is going to push back Elder Scrolls 6.

The idea of leveling up your cards sounds interesting. It sounds like they'll have a more developed single player mode than Hearthstone. Kind of like if the game had launched with adventures. Splitting the board in half could to be quite interesting from a positioning standpoint. Maybe you load up one half if your small creatures making your opponent commit resources towards that and then drop a high impact card on the other side, making it less likely your opponent can deal with it. I'm not sure how much personality the game will have though. Elder Scrolls for me, was never about the characters. Sure, there are a few memorable ones in each game, but compared to other RPGs they were fairly shallow. The only character I can think of who had a legitimate arc was Martin Septim and a lot of people ended up resenting him for taking all of the spotlight (I still liked him though).

Oh good. It's just what everyone wanted. Sarcasm aside, does TES really have enough iconic characters to do a card game? Lord knows that writing, especially characters, has never really been it's strong suit. Doubly so when you compare it with things like WoW and (because it's a card game) MTG.
