I think I broke the internet - clearing the cache doesn't work, when I log in again I get the same message.
Thanks for the help anyway - at least I submitted the better one first.
Well hopefully time has fixed it but if it has not yet, send a message to the tech team (or wait for Nasrin to come back, she's bound to be in here today at some point and she might be able to fast-track it).

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/subject/redesign

Now I'm assuming this is auto-populating my info because I'm logged on but make sure it has your info on it before you submit a ticket :)

Or as a band-aid, if you only have one other to submit, try it in a different browser.

How did I only discover this today? Darn!
Prepare for some Paint creations that will be artfully amateur, Escapist!

I've just submitted my entry. Does this qualify without breaking any of the contest's rules?

Wanted to go with a Japanese title since there are a ton of Anime fans here, thus the tiger/dragon idea wasn't going to work because there's not enough room for those two almighty beasts so I went with the tiger and a custom-created Yin Yang Symbol of mine :}
Looks awesome! It's great that you're so enthusiastic about design.

It's a little funny as the thing I post the most with cannot see past the site borders for the background...

Still, I may throw my hat into the ring for the sake of fun!

OOOOOOOHH!

I've got an idea! A background with username signatures! It may be a little unoriginal but ten years from now it'll show who was here. An Escapist time capsule if you will. I don't know how the logistics of it will work though...
That idea sounds awesome actually :}. Each Escapist Member can write their signature thus send you an image of the signature by PM so that way you can paste where you want the signatures to go and the background doesn't get all sloppy (because who knows, a user can write much bigger then say the majority of people).

Up to Nasrin if she approves though. After all, this is a tribute to The Escapist for years to come!
Sounds like a great idea to me. When I was in high school my art teacher would make each class sign a cinder-block at the end of the year. I guess the idea was that after a while we'd be able to look up and see the mark of everyone that shared the space with you before.

Pretty cool stuff!

I made two backgrounds to submit for this competition but after submitting the first one I get a thank you message instead of the box that allows me to upload.
I have tried refreshing the page but it still won't let me submit the second picture.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
Close your browser and re-open.

If that fails, clear your cache and try again.

If that fails, sign out of your user and sign back in.

If that fails...uh...you broke the internet.

EDIT: Wait a second...this isn't going to work in my plans to undermine my competition. Please send all new entries right to me, I'll be sure they get to the right place...Mu Ha HAAAAA!!!

I'll harass the appropriate people when they arrive :)

EDIT: Okay, apparently our contest system is only equipped to handle one entry per person per contest. It's my fault for not being aware of that before.

If you'd like to submit extra submissions feel free to e-mail them to me at [email protected]

ehh I'm considering entering anyway, but what I have here uses an image I made a while ago, uploaded to deviantart etc. Would that make the original image yours then?

Umm... it makes whatever you submit ours. Whether they're identical or not, I can't say.

Posted a thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.366644-Writing-on-the-wall-A-chance-to-be-a-part-of-Escapist-history#14283476] about the username collage. We'll see if it generates enough interest to make the idea work.

I'll definitely try my hand at this and keep checking to see what was submitted. However more that a competition I would love to see a custom background system. Though I guess that would be hard due to copyright issues.

EDIT: After a few hours absentmindedly playing with gradients, layers, and the smudge tool I have come up with this.

No completely clear spot in the middle but nothing important is there either.

Well it's using the same image, just slightly rearranged and cut to fit the proportions.

As I understand it, it means we can use the image you submit as we wish. We're probably just going to leave it as a background, but you know for legal reasons we have to cover ourselves. I'll double check on the accuracy of my statement though.

Carrie confirmed: "it makes exactly what [you are] submitting to use, ours to use, it does not give us rights to use the original image [you] made."

Our lawyer has pointed out, though, that if the images are nearly identical that it practically amounts to the same thing. Hope that helps.
Yeah, it's not anything I really need to get massively protective over, it's not an incredible piece of art that's gonna search me thousands, I'd just be a bit annoyed if the background lost out and I ended up getting people claiming the original image and trying to get it taken down anyway. I don't really mind what anyone does with the background one as long as I can still use the original for things.

Here's the original
http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/017/a/a/lonely_planet_by_anarchistfish-d4morl3.png

Here's one of the variants (although they're all pretty similar) of the background
http://i44.tinypic.com/2itijkj.jpg

Why jpg anyway? It reduces the quality to crap...

Idk why compressed jpg, that's just what was asked for. We aren't going to sue you over using your own art.

Just a wild guess, but I expect/hope that 'compressed .jpg' just means 'not a 500MB .bmp file.' I uploaded a 50kb .png image that looks crisper and better than its 500kb .jpg counterpart, so hopefully that'll be accepted.

More importantly, .jpg does not support animation. If you want animated backgrounds to be submitted (and I am hoping to make one), you're going to have to allow the .gif format, though I strongly recommend listing .png as well since .jpg will smudge otherwise clean lines during compression.

I'd guess that both are OK since I'm assuming the important thing would be not clogging the system with massive non-web-format (e.g. .bmp) and non-image (e.g. .swf) files. I'd prefer a more official word than just a guess on my part before I submit more entries, though.

Many thanks for putting the contest together!

Did you submit it through the contest system on the actual page? This is awesome.
Yeah, might do another too (sorry for double post, I suck at forums).
Please do!

If you didn't seem my edit to the OP, send all additional work to [email protected]. I've too-late realized a mistake, so ya gotta just e-mail in the extras. I'll see that they get put in the right place.
