This is an interesting post for me, as it coincides with both the one-year anniversary of my membership, and my 1000th post on the Escapist. OK, I?ll admit, I timed this. I was planning on posting this at the exact time of my first ever post too, but sadly, due to my night-owl habits, I signed up sometime before midnight, and didn?t post until after. So that plan fell on its face.

I have enjoyed every minute of my time on the Escapist. I guess it?s a bit cheesy, and a bit, well... y?know, soppy, but the ?Pist has become a huge part of my life. I used to be a television addict, but now I?m an Escapist addict instead. :)

In this past year, I?ve had my horizons broadened, my mind expanded and my faith in humanity shattered, many times. I?ve seen big posters banned, trolls banned, and Probations galore. I?ve seen magnificent reviews, and some of the most random discussions the world has ever seen. And you know what? I?d like to think I?ve made one or two friends. I?ve realised that there are people out there just like me, and it?s OK to love games beyond CoD and FIFA. In fact, I?ve just decided that I want to get into playing Tabletops... If only I could find some people to play with me...

I hope I will enjoy my next years on the Escapist as I have my last, and I hope that I can get to know a few more of you. Hell, I might even start coming here more often, I wonder if I can get to 5000 posts by next year...

To make this discussion-worthy (and not get me banned), What does the Escapist mean to you? Is it a place where you fit in? Somewhere to while away the hours? Or somewhere that you just think is a bit of fun?

To all of you that I talk to regularly: Thanks, you?re all awesome.

To all of you that I don?t: Hi there, I?m MrBacon. Wonderful to meet you. Talk to me some time, I promise, I don't bite (But don?t bite me either...)

Congratulation to you. You're winner.
I good grammer.

No, but seriously, congrats.

OT: I use this place as a passtime.
It's a damn good one.
This.

It just kills the boring moments of my day when I can't find anything else to do

Charmed, MrBacon. Lovely sentiments from you on this milestone post.

To me, the Escapist exists in direct opposition to the idea that the internet-at-large has cultivated about forums and forum culture. When people think of forums, they immediately picture sites the likes of Something Awful, or 4chan. Which are fine, don't get me wrong, the "anything goes" mentality of those sites is perfectly okay.

But you can't relate to people when they're acting like that. Those forums are where people go when they want to be anarchic and savor the joys of anonymity. Here on the Escapist, you're held accountable for the things you say. Not to imply that we're all proper gents and ladies all the time; that'd be boring! But at least here when we argue, we argue as people, not as trolls.

The Escapist is simply the classiest forum on the Internet, and it's just where I fit in.

I use this as a place to talk to some of the friends I have here and read reviews.
That's all, really.

This place is my internet home. It's the first and last site I go to every day, and I love it.
I suppose it is a mix of socialization, procrastination, and pure random goodness that keeps me coming back.

Congrats on hitting 1k, Bacon!

When I went Gonzo a couple of days ago I planned to write a big review of my 1000 posts on the Escapist.
But I couldn't be bothered.

Congrats on joining the 1k brotherhood.
The Escapist is a chance for me to put forward my opinion, get intelligent discussion and recommendations, and (occasionally) vent my anger.

Escapist is my #1 Internet Home. I go here if possible everyday and post away. It is a big part of my life and without it I will die of boredom.

I use this place to discuss, watch funny videos and socialise with other Escapists.

The Escapist was the first forum I joined, actually (after about 6 months of lurking), and while its community can be pretty arrogant at times, I've read through numerous fun and thoughtful threads that have kept me coming back.

It's also really fun seeing how it's changed, especially with the (to me) staggering new amount of video series (especially with LRR now being part of the Escapist) and with the community, what with all the new members coming in and old members leaving us. There seems to be something new every time I look at the forums (I should probably post more instead of lurking all the time).

Congratulation

Mine is basically the same as yours: I've experienced all the web-based stuff that I normally engage in(interesting dicussion, nerd-talk and gaming-related news) but with a very friendly, brotherly (and sisterly) community where it feels like we're all squashed around a small table in a nice pub having a lovely, friendly get-together.

It feels homely

Thank you, everyone

this thread makes me feel like an under achiever. My two year anniversary is coming up and I have yet to pass my 1000 post mark.
283 posts (before this one is posted) in 3 months and a few days...I have some threads to visit.

The Escapist is just another one of my many time sinks.

I like it and all, but............Christ, is that the time already?

Ahhh The Escapist, a place away from indecency, dumb preppy girls, jerkish jocks. It is my only home :[
