This is an interesting post for me, as it coincides with both the one-year anniversary of my membership, and my 1000th post on the Escapist. OK, I?ll admit, I timed this. I was planning on posting this at the exact time of my first ever post too, but sadly, due to my night-owl habits, I signed up sometime before midnight, and didn?t post until after. So that plan fell on its face.
I have enjoyed every minute of my time on the Escapist. I guess it?s a bit cheesy, and a bit, well... y?know, soppy, but the ?Pist has become a huge part of my life. I used to be a television addict, but now I?m an Escapist addict instead.
In this past year, I?ve had my horizons broadened, my mind expanded and my faith in humanity shattered, many times. I?ve seen big posters banned, trolls banned, and Probations galore. I?ve seen magnificent reviews, and some of the most random discussions the world has ever seen. And you know what? I?d like to think I?ve made one or two friends. I?ve realised that there are people out there just like me, and it?s OK to love games beyond CoD and FIFA. In fact, I?ve just decided that I want to get into playing Tabletops... If only I could find some people to play with me...
I hope I will enjoy my next years on the Escapist as I have my last, and I hope that I can get to know a few more of you. Hell, I might even start coming here more often, I wonder if I can get to 5000 posts by next year...
To make this discussion-worthy (and not get me banned), What does the Escapist mean to you? Is it a place where you fit in? Somewhere to while away the hours? Or somewhere that you just think is a bit of fun?
To all of you that I talk to regularly: Thanks, you?re all awesome.
To all of you that I don?t: Hi there, I?m MrBacon. Wonderful to meet you. Talk to me some time, I promise, I don't bite (But don?t bite me either...)
