Guys, look! It's Ann Coulter acting like Ann Coulter!
"America's growing interest in soccer/English football can only be a sign of the nation's moral decay."
http://m.townhall.com/columnists/anncoulter/2014/06/25/americas-favorite-national-pastime-hating-soccer-n1855817
You know, I really,
really want to believe that Ann Coulter is just embracing her love of parody. But come on! It's Ann Coulter! This lady has made an entire career off of saying stupid shit about topics she knows nothing about. Still, I never imagined her stooping so low as to turn her dislike of soccer into a rant against progressives and a platform for her hatred of Latin Americans.
Quoting from the Coulter article...
"Soccer is like the metric system, which liberals also adore because it's European. Naturally, the metric system emerged from the French Revolution, during the brief intervals when they weren't committing mass murder by guillotine"
What the fuck is wrong with this lady?
The nice part of me wants to just say that after achieving a net worth of $8.5 million [http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-politicians/republicans/ann-coulter-net-worth/] that she doesn't really care how stupid she sounds. She's obviously got a money making strategy going, and when you're making that kind of money, your personal reputation might not mean a whole lot. After all, a lot of her articles, including this one, sound like they are written by someone trying to make money off stupid people but are smart enough to showcase to everyone else just how ridiculous the notions are and that they are perfectly self-aware of how stupid they sound.
However, I'm inclined to believe that she's just a crazy person highly devoted to unusual ideals. She was doing odd stuff even before she was popular.
Either way, I'm more disturbed by the fact she's become successful off of articles like these. If it was just one crazy person, then it wouldn't matter. But she's pretty much shown us just how crazy quite a few people on the religious right are.
But to avoid this just being a political rant in a soccer thread:
Yay! Go USA! Good luck against Belgium. It was nice knowing you.
Yeah, I might be excited for the U.S. going to the Round of 16. Yes, I'm glad that they got out of one of the toughest groups in the World Cup this year. Still, I don't see them going very far. They looked horrible against Germany today, and Germany hasn't looked great compared to a few other teams. Heck, the U.S. could barely keep up with Ghana. They've got no hope against the other teams on Germany's level. Of course, I hope I'm wrong on that, but I'm not holding out too much hope.
