What the hell is with the people who are so narrow-minded that they don't give a fuck because something might not happen in their lifetime? God damn, the people these days. You guys are worse than the fucking politicians sometimes.
That's a naive standpoint, the world WILL end someday - you're just setting it back for further generations. Not to mention, if we stopped ALL our emissions, the sun would still produce enough to damage the environment anyway.

So stop being a dick to people.

Wait, what?

OT: I tend to think that the organisation is made up of loonies :p The idea behind the organisation is good, but the organisation itself is just annoying.

OT: Greenpeace tried to ban the use of chlorine, a naturally occurring substance that's actually on the fucking periodic table. After that, I've pretty much ignored everything they've said. The general idea behind the organisation is right, but the organisation itself has very little credibility.
I'm pretty sure the use of Uranium is banned too and it's on the flapping periodic table, your point?

OMG! Quick quick someone turn off the internets!

Seems the "news" came to the point where everything hasto be apocalyptic to even spike interest, the gaming industry died about 20x this year alone, not to mention all the murderers and rapists it spawned, now we are killing the planet too.
Maybe that's why PSN went down, better yet Greenpeace is behind it!

here's a idea greenpeace and environmentalist's if your serious about going green then shut your legs think about it everytime you give birth you create a person that will pollute for million's if not billion's of cubic liters form birth to death form the ride to pre school to the electricity your child spend on lamps computers consoles and when he grow older and move out to the fridge air condition etc etc etc! I'm am sick and tired of all these 21th century hippies with there holier then thou mentality! so until you keep your legs shut don't come and blame me and my mail for polluting your space!

effing hippies!

I've actually thought a little about just how much power a PC and the whole infrastructure consumes, but then I'm reminded that if we got rid of paper like we said we were going to do: instead of use MORE- we'd be in a better situation environmentally.

They're not telling you to stop using the internet, nitwits. Greenpeace is merely remarking upon the fact that the maintenance of the current internet mainframe isn't very good for the environment, and that we should look into alternative energy sources in that particular area. This poses no threat to your quest for XP, MoAr BACON!!1 and badly-drawn pornography.

That said, I disagree quite strongly with the organisation's stance on nuclear energy. And the gradual elimination of paper and the need for couriers and so forth may balance this whole thing out anyway.

Those servers don't exist in cyber space .. they exist inside countries .. so they shouldn't be blaming the "internet" .. blame those countries that host those servers on their soil and use "unclean" energy sources .. that's the first mistake .. you aimed wrong .. the internet isn't the what's causing that pollution .. it's the countries that have the servers .. if the servers existed in a country that only used wind/solar/..etc or any clean energy it wouldn't be a problem.

Second ... This topic generated quite some pollution .. didn't it XD

Third .. for their credit .. the CO2 thing is real .. green house effect is real .. any observant person can realize that by looking at Venus .. whose atmosphere mainly made of CO2 (Carbon dioxide 96.5 %) and suffers from a greenhouse effect that makes it's temp unbearable (467°C) .. yes plants on earth do absorb lots of CO2 .. but seriously how much more can plants absorb .. specially with green areas being reduced progressively .. if plants can't absorb the amount of CO2 we keep pumping into the air where do you think it will go ... do you want the same fate for earth people !!!?

Hope one day we find some efficient way to use Sun/Wind/Water to create clean energy before it's too late.

"Right now, the servers that host the Internet and all the online data in the world consume about 2 percent of the world's energy. But that number grows about 12 percent per year and Greenpeace urges that we have to begin considering the source of that power."

...what? Did it start in the negatives? Did the writer switch 12 and 2? Have they only been measuring for less than a year, and are extrapolating that data forward? This statistic makes no sense.

I wonder where do this kids took science class. Now someone is going to say that rain forest protect the world from overpoluting with CO2. No plants do not breath CO2. No livin organism in earth breath CO2. Plants use them in their feeding process. No plants are not responsible for the majority of the comsuption of CO2 in this shit hole we call Earth. Bacterias are the responsible, more specifcacly Cyanobacteria.
Now in the area I really can give a small contribution (geography), Coal energy is the only economical viable energy to many regions of the globe. Since 1973 the oil crisis had not stopped, worse now we live in a full energy crisis. I do understand the need for green energy, I kinda support it. Green energy is however expensive right now (even tough it can be efficient in certain conditions).
Now for the internet, well I think it's content is more polluting then the gases it emits every year.
