I hope its moreso player vs zombies than the first game, which was way too much generic shooter vs other gunmen, but i'm not holding out hope.
The fights against other people were probably the best part of TLOU's gameplay, barring the exploration/immersive parts. The fights against humans were tense affairs against reasonably smart AI opponents that used tactics to try and corner Joel, where you really had to think about when and how to engage.
The infected fights? Get your best gun out and start shooting them as they swarmed you. They could be hectic, but from a gameplay standpoint it was almost no different than an on-rails shooter.

Hell, I wish TLoU had used some other disaster to set the scene, but oh well.
That was the initial plan when making the first game, I think. But apparently they found out that without the zombies walking around a lot of the environments felt a little lifeless ironically. The main reason they seem to have put the infected in the game is to show an active element of the 'Nature overtaking Mankind' theme. And probably to show that the desease is still aggressively making its way around the country, ruining people's lives. The sewer level for example wouldn't have been as impactful without the zombies.

Once you got a shotgun they were relatively easy, but before that you only really had two handguns, forcing you to reach for bricks and melee weapons. Even after you get the shotgun I still enjoyed a good deal of the infected fights. It's not until you get the flamethrower that things get piss easy, which is why on subsequent playthroughs I never touched that thing ever again.

Yeah, yeah, but... fucking zombies.

They're just such so overdone and lazy at this point.

Huh. I did exactly the same thing.

Subsequently had to get real creative with my molotovs for that final infected tunnel on harder difficulties.

I don't mind too much, since I like the theme behind them. I like that it's not caused by some experiment, or nuclear war, or some other cause that's supposed to indicate Mankind being punished for its hubris.

Edit. I would've liked it if maybe the zombies' get less aggressive as they'd become more infected. The more shroom-like they become the more passive, until in their final stage they're just these creepy fungus men aimlessly walking around completely unresponsive. It would've added some more originality to the zombie mechanic, and could've made for a nice juxtaposition to being taken over by a hostile organism but ending up in this very peaceful state.

It would be special to run into one of these near-death characters in say, an alley somewhere; isolated with nothing but perhaps a chain link fense to rub against.

Then, when you think it's about to notice you, it stops...all is quiet for a moment, he looks up a bit and tilts his deformed head to one side...then let's out a wet-at-first-with-an-inflection-at-the-end sounding death fart, right before falling over into a pulpy cloud of mush and dust.

See, for me, as good as the story was in TLOU, I thought the game itself was mediocre as fuck. Granted escort quest-type games are annoying when the escortee consistently gets in trouble (Ashely, RE4 anyone?) but it was also terribly immersion breaking for Ellie to be all but ignored by the fungus-zombies.
The gameplay was basically Uncharted minus the climbing set-pieces, and personally I think the shooting mechanics in Uncharted are meh.
I'm not sure how anyone who's really played both Uncharted and The Last of Us could say that. They're like opposites within the same genre (I'm also not sure how anyone could be trashing TLoU's gameplay while praising Wolf Among Us, Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed).

Because you're not reading the context, and I have played both games with all 5 Uncharted titles under my belt. I didn't trash the games, I said they weren't GOTY material to me. A 7/10 is still a good game. I just don't find TLOU mechanically special, and very reminiscent of the Uncharted series which I found to be cinematically great stories but meh in terms of actual gameplay.
There's something called subjectivity, which means my opinion is not fact, but neither is yours.

Did we really need a Part II? Nothing against the game, but you can't make lightning strike twice in the same area. If you're going to do a Part II, focus on a different set of characters. Joe and Ellie's tale is done; there is nothing left for them.

I think you already know the answer to this.

It's an announcement trailer. It exists to say "This game exists! And these two characters are back!" And it gives a hint as to the tone of the game to get people talking. "Oh look, Ellie is really pissed off about something."

People who liked the previous game are, generally, excited because this trailer tells them that another one is coming.

We both know that if there was an announcement trailer for the next Doom game that showed nothing but 30 seconds of the doom marine trying to scratch his armpit through his armour you'd be losing your shit over it.

Whaddayamean, it's already GOTY.

Hohoho, but okay, it's a teaser, not a trailer. Yet enough to make a live audience shriek like teenage girls. And since even the most loyal tLoU fans are going "hang on, story's finished, why have same characters?" let's hope Naughty Dog can mitigate the hype explosion somewhat, cause it won't end pretty.
