Yeah, the reviews this is getting do make me bitter it's not coming out on other platforms. First Journey, now this. I hope Sony is port-friendlier next generation.

Still, I've got more than enough gaming backlog as it is, so I guess it's not like I'm lacking for something to play.

Exactly. It seems weird that they would release such a high profile console exclusive so late in the console cycle. I might have bought a PS4 to play this game, but there's no point in buying a PS3 at this point.

I thought there was still a month or two before this came out. Sheesh...where does the time go?

I may have to wait to get this. I just finished up The Walking Dead adventure game and my emotions need some time to recover.

Can't wait for the next gen to arrive so I can spend most of it playing all the current-gen exclusives I've missed out on with a heavily discounted PS3.

The Last of Us has held my attention for a whole year and I don't even have the means to play it. I've missed Naughty Dog... Jak 3 was so long ago.

Sony owns Naughty Dog. This game not being on other platforms has nothing to do with any sort of exclusivity agreements or publishing a third party title. They literally own this game and the company that made it.

How is it weird to release a high profile console exclusive for a console with, what is it now, 60 million units out there? Especially when they're able to build on the knowledge they've developed over three previous games. I'm also not sure I see how there's no point in buying a PS3 now. It's cheaper than ever and has almost seven years worth of exclusives to catch up on for those who don't have one. If anything, there's never a better time to buy one.

Very balanced review.
I hope I'll be able to finish it, but I'm just so very tired of post-apoc zombie games/movies/stories and bland action-adventure-shooters.

I'm really wondering how a game that combines the single most tired genre of gameplay with the single most tired genre of story is able to get such positive hype. Not trying to trollbait, really.
Just really... curious.

This review felt very bland to me. I mean, is was fair I suppose, but bland. I guess its better than over hyping it like a lot of review sites do, but considering the admittedly over-enjoyment I had with the Demo, I guess not everyone can share my excitement for this game. The review didn't ruin my enthusiasm though :p Like I said, it seemed fair enough

Funny, I was just listening to a podcast from Friday about the leaked review of this game calling it the best game of this generation.

I went up to metacritic and The Last of Us is absolutely killing it on the critic reviews. It'll be interesting to see how user reviews pan out. I was curious how The Last of Us had 42 critic reviews before even being released, yet Tomb Raider Bioshock Infinite have 27 reviews and MLB 13 has 36. Then I looked at Ni No Kuni with its 89 critic reviews. Is this disparity in number of critic reviews normal?

According to metacritic it doesn't release for another 8.5 days.

Sony just doesn't have a review embargo over this game as they know it will get overwhelming positive reviews, and they dont have to trick people into buying it like some games do (Cough Colonial Marines)

OT: Its a shame Sony decided to make this an exclusive on a console that will be dead in a few months.
There's also some little event going on next week that would drown out even the best game releases, so it behooves them to not coincide review embargoes and get lost in the noise.

So basically, they took the Walking Dead and added actual gameplay

I dunno, zombie games have been done to absolute death. I can't muster up any motivation to go and buy a PS3 just for yet another fucking zombie game. Just... Ugh. Remember when zombies were cool and fresh?

Yay well written characters. Oh and children. Because you can't have an emotional story in a zombie game without having to sacrifice yourself/other people for a little girl 50 times in a row.

Sorry, I just HATE child characters. HATE. I hate children in real life too, the whiny brats but in a story it's like "yo dawg, I heard you have inbuilt ma/paternal instincts for protecting the offspring of your species. Let me just abuse the shit out of an impulse you just cannot control for an "emotionally moving" story."

Yeah i can use quotes within quotes. Come at me Grammar Bros!

One child character in the history of gaming I have actually liked. No, not Clementine, although she was tolerable.

Jim Sterling gave it a 10 out of 10 and he hates everything. IGN also gave it a 10, but they're super horny for Naughty Dog, so that doesn't mean as much.

Anyways, I think I'm going to buy it instead of Bioshock Infinite. That's if I have enough time to play it what with work being 14 hours daily, everyday for the past month. I might get to play videogames around September at this rate. But that's when Battlefield 4's Beta comes out and Battlefield takes precedence over everything else. But then I'm also on academic probation when I go back to University so I definitely have to study more. So, I don't think I'm playing this or Bioshock till Christmas break. But that's when the next-gen consoles come out, and that might peak my interest, too. But I also might work Christmas break. I think I'm just gonna give up videogames for a while.

For what it's worth, the reviews seem to be indicating that Ellie is an asset much more often than she is a liability. In Jim Sterling's review, he noted how it was actually a little immersion breaking to see the enemies completely ignoring her in favor of concentrating on him even though she's right in front of them.

I find it interesting that this game is basically one big escort quest, though. XD

"It's about what happens when you put a reluctant hero in a dire situation, surrounded by enemies, with only a memory to keep him fighting."

So EVERY WESTERN MALE PROTAGONIST EVER.

Got it.
