The LEGO Movie Assembles in 2014

Remember when you used to jumble up all your LEGO playsets and make your own pretend cross-franchise stories? They are making that into a movie.

LEGO has been taking on the world these days, from its humble beginnings as a building block, to licensed franchises, to videogames, to robots [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Mindstorms_NXT], there are few mediums that the bricks have yet to grace. Warner Bros. has announced the next logical step in LEGO's worldwide domination: The LEGO Movie.

The trailer starts out with unlikely hero Emmett, not knowing entirely what's going on. Luckily, Morgan Freeman as a wizard is here to give us some exposition in the way only Morgan Freeman can. "My fellow master builders, including but not limited to, Superman, Wonderwoman, the Mermaid, Green Ninja, 1980-something Space Guy, Michelangelo, Michelangelo and the 2002 NBA All-Stars. We have learned that Lord Business plans to end the world as we know it."

The movie seriously looks like it was plucked right from my twelve year old self's imagination, featuring Emmett interacting with characters plucked from all corners of the LEGO world. It's a cross-franchise extravaganza that is of course littered with the various Warner Bros. franchises that have received the LEGO treatment over the years. "Can you make one of these in orange?" Emmett asks LEGO Batman, "I only work in black," he replies, "and sometimes very, very dark gray."

The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson and of course Morgan Freeman.

The official website [http://thelegomovie.warnerbros.com/index.html] seems to suggest a February 2014 release date.

And Alison Brie is in it too. :D

There's nothing I don't love about it. Well, except from the trailer music and maybe Will Ferrell, but I suppose nothing can be perfect.

Sure they've got the ghost, the shark, the space guy, the medieval guys, superheroes, robin hood, cowboys, indians, modern city guys, ninjas.... but I didn't see a single pirate in the group. Where the hell are the pirate legos?!

Let's hope that the movie isn't ...[puts on sunglasses]...blocked. YEAAAAAAAH!!

Even if its terrible, I'll love it like my own child. The good one. Not the throwaway...

Is this created with actual Lego? Stop motion? That is pretty cool. Seems pretty enjoyable for the kids and the parents.

This looks... pretty good, actually. Kinda hard to tell if this is CGI or stop-motion animation (looks like both to me). Hope to see more on this soon. =)

You know... I think this'll be a decent film, but I really wish they weren't trying to mimic stop-motion animation with CGI. It just looks like they animated the trailer and took out every third frame or something.

Other than that... Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson.

*watched trailer expecting this to be stupid*

This... looks... good? Why does this look good?

I'm so confused right now. Please don't ruin my childhood...

Wait... this is my childhood incarnate. NOTHING CAN GO WRONG!

the only thing I am apprehensive about is Will Ferrell being in it, I hate that man as an actor, almost all of his stuff is "Massively stupid yet inexplicably famous/wealthy/ well liked guy" gets put into a weird situation and everybody in the film glories him except for the villain or some random character who points out Will's character is a jackass man-child

I know how you feel. I should hate this. It is everything we complain about. Hollywood is trying to cash in our childhood. It has the dumbest premise. We all need to go see it right now.

This has a very "Axe Cop" vibe to it.

The jerky stop motion and lighting effects really make the clip look like something some amateur would upload.

Yet I can't help but be drawn in by its charm.

Well that's going on the must-see list.

What's up with all the Ferrel bashing? He made plenty of good comedies. I, for one, really like his work :|

Possibility 1) There's only so much they can show in a single trailer, and Pirates seemed superfluous with all the other characters they've shown.
2) There's only so much Lego they can fit into a single movie, and Pirates either only get a short bit not worth showing or nothing at all.
3) The parts that include Pirates aren't quite finished yet.

I think Will's character in the movie is the villain. I'm pretty sure he plays the "Lord Business" character they mention in the trailer that wants to destroy the world as they know it.

And if Megamind is anything to go by, Will can play a great villain.

Well there must be some, because someone throws a shark at Emmet. I mean, that might be the mermaid, sure, but there's still hope
