The movie that made you cry the hardest

There are a few.

Spirited Away: One of my favorite movies of all time, to be sure, and the first to ever make me cry, the way that it ended was so bittersweet that I couldn't tell if I wanted to spit it out or swallow and smile. I kind of ended up doing both.

Brokeback Mountain: The ending was appalling in its abruptness. I had a sinking feeling in my stomach for days, but I only got a little misty for about twenty minutes.

Toy Story 3: This is The Big One(reference to the first film unintended). Having watched my childhood go by to the beat of the first two films, the finale of Toy Story 3 was the perfect escort into adulthood. These films had led me by the hand all the way through growing up, and in 2010, after having held my hand for fifteen years, Toy Story 3 let me play one last time, then... let me go. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. Hell, who am I kidding? I'm weeping outright. I can never go back. Nobody can. Those memories, though, and the lessons I learned, will live with me forever, and nobody can take that away from me.

So long, pardner.

Brave: Because I love my mother, okay? Get off my back.

Spirited Away was a dang good movie. More emotional than I had expected.

A lot of movies get me emotionally, actually. I don't cry, but I get misty, usually. Still, the only one that really hit me hardest was (and I've said this before) Pan's Labyrinth. Seriously the most messed up movie out there. Depressing as crap.

The Plague Dogs

It's like Watership Down except more tragic... and with dogs.

It has an ending which will make you cry a river.
Oh, god. I'd forgotten about that one. It didn't make me cry, though. It made me feel horrified and empty inside, but I think it went so far past heavy that I couldn't cry about it.
I know what you mean. I felt that way about Grave of the Fireflies; The events became so horrible that I didn't feel comfortable anymore in order to cry.

But with The Plague Dogs it's just that terribly bittersweet ending (more bitter than sweet though) that has me bawling like a baby. And then that song that plays over it, "I don't feel... no pain no more..."

Nothing's ever actually made me cry, but the closest I've got is probably the entirety of Mary and Max [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_and_Max].

Toy story 3. All of the last 10 minutes or so, I was crying like a baby.

It was like my childhood ending.
Yeah, pretty much this.

Speaking of Pixar, the first 5 minutes of Up. It manged to tell a better love story in 300 seconds than Twilight did in 5 movies.

The Green mile is the only film that has successfully made me shed manly tears.

John Coffey dying at the end made me cry for fucking ages

Fox and the Hound, though going back about 19 years. Whitefang too. Watership down scared the hell out of me - all those myxomatosis rabbits wedging into tiny burrows? Bleurgh! (At least, that's how I remember it.)

The Return of the King, for basically the entire 30-minute ending. Toy Story 3 too, albeit to a slightly lesser extent (if only because the ending isn't as long).

Moon didn't make me cry I don't think, but I was agonisingly sympathetic towards Sam. There's a bit with Gerty, and then a scene in the moon buggy which are especially tortuous.

I don't usually cry, but these cracked me up. I remember staring at the blank screen for minutes after the credits rolled and then sobbing like an idiot.
- Gallipoli: I expected it to have a sad ending. What I didn't expect were the last 3 minutes of pure heart crunching cinema splendor.

- Fellini's La Strada: This hit me out of nowhere. And I still don't know how or why.

- Chaplin's City Lights

- Grave of the Fireflies: This one has to be the greatest. People who haven't seen this yet might say "oh no.. not this one again". That's what I used to say. I knew the story, I had read the reviews, I thought I was prepared. I wasn't...

Grave of the Fireflies. All of my tears.
Toy Story 3 is a really close second for that last freaking scene.

-Up. That first scene. Obviously.
-Toy Story 3, last scene.
-Didn't want it to happen, but Titanic. I watched it so I could say I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I was wrong.
-Synecdoche New York I'm not entirely sure why, but the ending had me in floods. Weird, weird film.

Toy Story 3, and Up. Goddamnit Pixar, why do you make me cry so much!

I've never seen Grave of the Fireflies, I'll go watch it. Wish me luck.

I have thought a lot of movies where sad, but I don't think I ever cried due to a movie. I think the closest I came to it in recent memory was The Iron Giant. Sad but I didn't cry.

I remember bawling when I was a kid and watched Where the Red Fern Grows. I couldn't finish it then. Went back later after a nap and saw that the ending was bittersweet. I didn't hate it so much then.
THIS OH LAWD THIS.

I actually finished it the first time, though. Wept alllll the way through the appearance of the red fern, though, so it did pretty much nothing to console me.

Then I cried for an hour after.

You know what? A. I was a very unstable little kid, and B. movies with dogs should stop existing. They're all traumatic. ALL OF THEM.

I cried so very hard.
Christ, why'd you need to bring this up for me again?

Anyway, I'm sure it's already been brought up but:

That first ten minutes, man. It's a lot more powerful in the theatres, though.

"PIXAR, THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME?!"

The Breakfast Club.

Don't judge me, the movie is well written and I like the characters.
