So I was reading that article there, which essentially outlines how Microsoft are the first to mass market the whole SoC desktop-class processor idea in the new 360. Only problem is they've had to make it slightly worse than it should be in order to keep it in line with the performance of current 360's (read the part about the on-die front side bus).
From the article:
"It would have been easier and more natural to just connect the CPU and GPU with a high-bandwidth, low-latency internal connection, but that would have made the new SoC faster in some respects than the older systems, and that's not allowed."
I'm interested in what other people think about this. Would it bother all you regular 360 owners if they made a better job of this new one?
Personally I wouldn't mind, progress is progress after all but from what I can see the problem comes with XBL and owners of the newer console having an unfair advantage. Again this doesn't bother me really but is this the only reason why they've done this? Why, as it states in the quote, is this not allowed?
I do realise I could just go away and do some research on the whole thing for a while and be done with it but I thought it might make an interesting discussion.
