Remember how everyone hated the voice acting in the last major game? (apparently there was a DS release a short while ago) How the only two characters didn't have any type of accent? Well, in some ways, Ubisoft fixed this problem, sort of, but their solution is absolutely fucking hilarious.

Instead of giving the prince and his brother Iranian accents, Ubisoft un-Americanized the characters by giving them British accents in Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. i couldn't stop laughing at this, the entire time that i played the game.

It doesn't really makes sense though...all other characters, other than the prince and his brother, speak with an Iranian accent, and the main boss even speaks in full arabic. this both confuses and intrigues me.

The Fandumb involving Prince of Persia and his voice is utterly retarded. You can't make 'em happy and it's best to just ignore them.

Didn't the Prince have a British-ish accent in the Sands of Time? I think they were going with continuity. In fact, there were never any proper accents in the Prince of Persia games. Personally I would like them to speak in Iranian accents, though I think the demand for appropriate accents was a bit extreme. There were plenty of things wrong with the game, but the amount of attention that the voice acting gets was uncalled for. No one complains about anime not being in a Japanese accent

I dunno, i think ubisoft thinks that having a middle eastern main character will lower their sales or something. christ, even Altair spoke with an american accent, but no one really cared about that one. i suppose they understood the "international" part was neccessary, with AC2 being set in italy, and Ezio actually having an itallian accent. they didn't really have a choice with this one, it's set in iran, but they knew they needed to internationalize the character...so they went with the next in line...the english.

I think most people are upset with Ubisoft in these situations, not so much the voice actors.

I really don't care either way; i didn't say it was bad, i just said it was hilarious.

True, but you don't see any games out there were the main characters are speaking with a native accent, but the main characters, and the main characters only, are speaking in a different dialect.

Isn't it based off the movie though? I haven't really looked into this game yet, and I got a buddy that said it was... he could be wrong though.

A videogame based off of a movie that is based off of a game..... pretty hilarious.

I like how in a lot of American things British=foreign. I guess as long as it sparks the right synapse connections in the audience there's no harm done.

Define "British accent"

That encompasses like a dozen different possibles at least. Sometimes you'll have accents localised to single cities (Birmingham accents, Liverpudlian accents...)

No, they are just coincidental release dates. the movie is closer to the sands of time game, where he's using a dagger.

in the newest game, the "sand" is actually the enemy, and the dagger of time is nowhere to be seen.

Lol, yeah. i always love when they do that. Pretty much all sci-fi related media uses either a British accent or a monotone voice to indicate foreign origin.

Oh, and it isn't a sequel to the 2009 release either I take it.

no, i think they might be trying to link the series back to the sands of time trilogy, but i'm not sure, as the first sands of time is the only one of the three that i've played, so i couldn't tell you. Personally, i liked the direction they were heading in, being more fantasy and less realism, i just didn't like the combat or voice acting.

God forbid they actually use, y'know, the right accent. I think the games companies underestimate gamers' capacity for understanding the spoken word.

It's like that english accent that they like to give aliens in american sci-fi. it's usually well structured, and perfectly understandable, with tiny bits of slang thrown in there.

It's like a proper British accent. Kind of posh, like the queen.
Not cockney, although I was pondering how funny that would be.
Ah, so the Queen's English then. Jolly good, whatwhat.

And yeah, having an entire cast be Cockney would add a certain...edge to your games.
