Probably. The law of diminishing returns is hitting videogame graphics hard. Seems like next-gen consoles will probably get realtime raytracing, which is an impressive technology. But the increase in visual fidelity in AAA games is not so great that it'll be instantly noticeable to the average consumer, unless you have a side by side comparison with the older baked-in lighting solutions, or they're unusually tech-savvy.

Ironically, it seems like games with low-budget or otherwise simple visuals enjoy the greatest gain from the big new thing in graphics. For reference, look up the ray-traced versions of Quake 2 and Minecraft.

This. With any luck, it'll be the generation where every game developer suddenly remembers that graphics are tools to a video game as choice of paper is to a book. Important to get the message across, sure. But it isn't the content itself

I'd say not that large. From what has been revealed, the PS5 seems to be working more on better sound design and faster loading times, rather than graphical improvements. They may have a bit of a step up from the current generation, but I don't see them focusing on graphical improvement like they did with previous consoles.

From what we've seen with the details on the Ps5, the next "gen" consoles are going to be less about increasing graphical power and instead focusing on processing power. I think the next big leap in gaming tech isn't graphical and instead will be performance. Little to no loading times, stronger unwaivering framerates, faster install, download and update times. Things of that nature, which imo will be worth the upgrade especially maintaining the backwards compatibility promised so far with the PS5.

Aren't they pushing 8K? If so, I'd disagree with this statement. (Except backwards compatibility.)

I'd argue that 8k would be a graphical fidelity thing and not a performance thing. I think the goal is just checkerboard 4k at a smooth framerate.
