The Order: 1886 Trailer Gets With the Times

The Order: 1886 just declassified a new trailer and some gameplay footage to whet your Victorian steampunk appetites.

The titular order in The Order: 1886 was founded in a simpler era, but times change. The game's neo-Arthurian knights are still dedicated to exterminating evil, but in the game's steampunk industrial London, "evil" might take the form of a guy with an automatic rifle. A new trailer for the game touches on the leading organization's rich history of fighting bad guys, and how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

As details of the PS4 exclusive title begin to emerge, a story is finally starting to come together. The order is locked in a centuries-old war between mankind and werewolves "half-breeds." In the midst of an industrial revolution, however, new enemies are taking up arms against the ancient order. A rebellion of downtrodden citizens sees the order as wicked pawns of the city's oppressive elite, and they'll oppose players as more traditional "bad guys with guns" enemies.

The first gameplay previews show some combat against these rebels, and the footage proves that the developers weren't kidding about The Order's advanced graphics technologies. The game's cutscenes are indistinguishable from its gameplay, blending into an impressively cinematic experience. Combined with the grit-and-grime art direction, the visuals are top notch.

Of course, that won't mean much if the gameplay can't back it up. We still haven't seen much besides predictable cover-based shooting and sneaking, so I hope The Order: 1886 still has a few tricks up its sleeves. There's certainly time to surprise us, since there's still no release date aside from a vague "this year."

I was really underwhelmed at E3, but the game is beginning to grow on me. I don't normally graphics whore, but the little gameplay snippets look really good and I dig the aesthetic. I love the victorian setting too.

If the gameplay is average cover-based shooter I think I could really like this game. The fear is if it's mediocre or worse, I guess we'll have to wait and see for more footage

the gameplay doesn't bug me, it isn't groundbreaking but I couldn't care less at this point about that, as long as it's polished the setting is keeping my interested.

I'll have to wait until I see more though before I make any decisions if this adds to my reasons of why I might get a ps4

Not too keen on this gameplay at the moment, seems pretty generic, which is a shame considering the setting has a bit of potential.

Hopefully its just bad marketing at the moment, god hope the next batch of gameplay isn't a turret section.

By god, I just want to play the game just because it might have werewolves in it. :D
We need more werewolves in games...at least good games and not Guise of the Wolf or Legendary.
And I'm tired of playing Elder scrolls at the moment.

Bring on the half breeds!

Awesome. Hope they take advantage of the whole werewolf thing that they're doing, both gameplay and story wise. It could really mix things up a lot.

Yes indeed the setting has so much promise, so much potential beyond a simple cover based shooter. We've fought zombies, aliens, and nazis by the truckload. Supernatural creatures are often overlooked. I want to see more. Does it have a hub where you can pick and choose your missions? Could you fail missions? Is it co-op online or NPCs? I hope to see a non-linear game with plenty of replay. Maybe online play would have you playing as the half breeds and what not. Yeah, need to know alot more before I even think of tapping that pre-order button.

From what is shown here visually it looks great, gameplay wise even Spec Ops The Line looked more interesting. I dont dislike cover shooters but you cant make one and trap the player in corridors since that just turns the game into "whack-a-mole". Gears is a good cover shooter because if playing at the right difficulty the player needs to use cover to flank the enemy, not just to wait for the health to regenerate and send the next batch of damage.

For now I still wont care much for the game if all it has going for it are the visuals

Ready at Dawn haven't exactly been liberal with details regarding this game, and the latest info and trailer don't give much away in my opinion. Graphics aside, I don't see much wow factor yet. Now, of course I'll reserve judgement until I've played it, but to me the game at this stage isn't hitting the same pre-release highs as Destiny, Watch Dogs or Titanfalll. Hopefully they'll build momentum soon with some eye-popping gameplay!

I'm really hoping that that was just a gameplay moment to change up the tempo. Because as fights go, the one I saw looked really atmospheric and I enjoyed straight out watching. The worry is if every fight ends up like that.

It's a pity I'm so burned out on the whole gritty, washed out, urbanized aesthetic they've got going on, because pseud-Victorian London is one of the few settings where that absolutely belongs. Until I see more details I'm not going to bother with it, though. It hasn't shown itself worth buying a new console for.

I'm mostly in favor of the mustaches. Oh, also it's nice to once more see some steampunk that admits the 19th century was kinda effed up.

I don't know why, but I get the feeling of Van Hellsing, if it were good. This game is currently sitting on my "Watch it" list. Not quite sold on it. But certainly not ignoring it.

Agreed.

The premise sounds awesome, but seriously - chest high walls and quick time events?

How revolutionary.

I'll wait to see more I suppose, it certainly has more of my interest. I have a much better impression of the game than when it was first announced. I remember thinking it was just a Victorian era/Steam Punk Left 4 Dead clone to add on to the co-op theme of E3 2013.

What I'm taking away from this trailer sis that when we see future games from this franchise they can be set either long before or after this one // So we'll get 'The Order 1612' or 'The Order 1015' // I not sure I want one one set after 1886 as romantic nature of all the future tech will be taken away

At 1:20 the newspaper mural said "Tesla" something, I don't know why but that got me intested and then I saw a guy with a weird rifle and muttonchops... I was in, but it's PS4 only, so no.
