The PlayStation 4 has Now Sold Over 40 Million Units Worldwide

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1324/1324908.jpgSony announced today that they've sold over 40 million units of the PlayStation 4.

Sony has been dominating the console war this generation (press release [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/142135-] that announced the sales figures, nearly 271 million copies of physical and digital PS4 titles have been sold as well. Uncharted 4 garnered special mention for its first week sales of 2.7 million units.

Andrew House, the President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said of the milestone, "We are truly grateful for the enormous support from our fans and partners across the globe, which helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time."

This is a big win for PlayStation, especially since it represents units "sold through," which means actually purchased by customers, rather than "shipped," which includes units still sitting on store shelves. The PS4 continues to sell faster than any of its predecessors.

I'm still of the opinion that the only reason the PS4 is outpacing the PS2 in terms of sales is because the Xbone fell flat on its face at launch.

The price is the only factor here. People who buy yearly Fifa, Madden, CoD, etc, are what drive console unit sales and they needed a box that can play those games. PS4 is the cheaper box this gen and this is why 360 did so well last gen.

This demographic also wouldn't care about the DRM fiasco or other XB1 launch issues even if they knew, which, lets be frank, they don't because they aren't into this hobby as much as the people on this forum.

If it were otherwise, Bloodborne wouldn't be having such a hard time staying in top 10 sellers where Fifa and the likes reign supreme.
