Damn, someone's jaded. While I don't agree with your first "point", I won't argue in opinion.Sgt. Sykes said:Half-Life was simple, polished and amazing and Valve has totally screwed the formula up with HL2.
Portal was simple, polished and amazing and the history repeats itself.
Also this game is going to be too difficult. No, they can't balance 10 new features, keep things interesting for much longer and at the same time not make it difficult while targeting a release date sooner than in 10 years.
Also, if they at least bother with some story, a game like this is asking for episodic content. Valve has their priorities mixed up.
However, I will argue that saying Valve's talented design team, that has time and time again proven naysayers wrong with each new, brilliant release, can't find a way to work a narrative and all of the complex new features into the game while keeping it fresh and entertaining is a bit off base. I'm not going to sit here and say that it's a guaranteed hit in the works, but to say outright they'll fuck it up already is a bit cynical. It's like saying Bioware won't release a quality game that RPG fans will gobble up or that Blizzard won't spend an inordinate amount of money trying to perfect the gameplay of any given release. It can happen, but it's never THAT bad or very likely.
Also, not sure where the whole "episodic" idea is coming from. They said they're already aiming for a 20 hour story mode. And that doesn't include the co-op campaign. Besides, the game's been in development for about 3 years already. They started work the very moment the first game released to such high praise.
