My personal favourite games ever (in no particular order):

World of Warcraft
Minecraft
Mass Effect (1)
Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
InFamous

Why?

World of Warcraft:
The first and only MMO that I played for over a month. In fact, I have played this for very, very long. It started out with a private server named XaosWoW, which had an ping ranging from 5000 to 30000 miliseconds. It was amazing. I started out as a NightElf and it took me about 2 weeks of mob grinding to get off Teldrassil. First setting foot in Darkshore very impressive. Everything felt dark and gritty, just what I was looking for for. The game died for me because it became less about gameplay and more about numbers. This is something that I don't want in any RPG. I just want to expand on a character and not so much pay attention to gear (of course, I would, but I don't want to be forced to). Feel free to suggest me any game that does this right.

Minecraft:
I used to create maps starting out when I was really young. I really enjoyed doing this and I have made some very good maps (if I may say so myself) for Call of Duty (1) back in the days. What minecraft does is allowing me to create my own world. I just hate that it's so slow and tedious, but there are mods for that ;). Now, it's just overwhealming. I can create just about anything I want to and that blow my mind.

Mass Effect:
This is the first game that made me care about characters in a game and even whipe a tear off when the Normandy finally blew Sovereign to shreds.

Medal of Honour: Allied Assault (+Spearhead & Breakthrough).
An epic game (including the expansions). A lot of set-piece moments. I have played this game numerous times and I basically know every part of the game, step by step. This is the first W.W. 2 game to have everything a first person shooter needed to have. It had drama, it was cinematic (especially for the time), it had very interesting and diverse missions (tank mission, stealth missions, infiltration / disguise, rescue, escort. Everything. That, and the dogs genuinly scared the crap out of me.

InFamous:
Why InFamous. It's the only game I ever played where you really feel badass. I have downloaded the InFamous 2 demo a while ago and it just got even better. Real, meaningful destruction at your fingertips. That, is power. I will quote something for you:

"Nearly all men can stand the test of adversity, but if you really want to test a man's character, give him power"
- Abarham Lincoln

That awesome feeling of power makes this a fun game. I was going to say that I'd be a good guy if InFamous was real... but who knows?

[HEADING=1]EDIT:[/HEADING]

LOZ: Majora's mask
Borderlands
Spore
Sonic adventure 2 battle (Its the same game as sonic adventure 2, battle is the gamecube version)
Dark cloud 2

Those of you how know me will wonder why I did not pick a halo game: it's because at least one halo game will make it anyways, but some of my other favorites will not.

Super Mario Bros 3

Perhaps the most playable platformer... still plays fantastically today.

World of Warcraft

Finest MMO. There's a lot of hate for it, but you know what? It just does everything right. The only game I've ever willingly paid a subscription for

Supreme Commander

Big Total Annihilation fan, and this took it to the next level. Haven't played the sequel, so can't comment, but unlike most other RTS, this hasn't aged badly at all

Resident Evil 4

The Res Evil series came together for me with this installment. One of the best looking games on the Wii, and it balanced everything really well

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Just took that winning formula and made it better. Before they tried to pump too much into the series. Had an incredible map editor before they were mainstream, had an addictive set up (so many tasks, two minutes to do them) and one of the best soundtracks ever. I own every album for every song on it's play list, and I still listen to them all. The perfect addicting package.

I actually have loads more. Damnit

I've only skimmed a few pages of this massive thread, but it looks to me as if most of the voted games are very recent ones. Which are still very very good, but in my opinion there are also gems in our past, so I'll vote for them (yeah, ok, I'm old and nostalgic).

Digger

I played this game over and over again as a child. It came out in 1983, but you can still play it on PC... and PS3 apparently!

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones_and_the_Fate_of_Atlantis
This was a fantastic adventure game that kept me playing it for ages.

Ultima Underworld
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_Underworld:_The_Stygian_Abyss
The game that introduced me to fantasy roleplaying games. Also the first game with first-person view coupled with a proper 3D engine rather than fake 3D - and it was in 1992.

Wing Commander III
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Commander_III:_Heart_of_the_Tiger
The computer game with extended filmed sequences (featuring Mark Hamill, no less!), a deep story, and awesome space combat. A kolossal.

System Shock
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock
The first one, not the sequel that everybody loves. I personally like the original better, as it was the one which provided more innovation in the genre.
