Well looks its time bid farewell to The Simpsons. After so many years, the show is finally coming to an end. Personally I think it had a great run, possibly the most succesful in the television history. Even though the quality of the episodes has been rather dull recently, there is no denying that every single one of us enjoys an occasional episode of The Simpsons.

So, Escapist, do you have a favourite episode you would like to share? Or perhaps any thoughts on the whole thing?

My favourite episode is the one where Homer recalls finding Mr Smither's senior corpse in the well.

About time! Not so sure how "official" this is, due to not hearing it from anywhere else. regardless, The Simpsons has severely gone down in quality for years, even Flight of the Conchords was made unfunny by their crap writers

All good shows have to die.
The Simpsons had more time than any TV show could had, and in all honesty it was a brilliantly great time. Now is the best time to finally lay it to rest.

Well... at least its planned, and thats the good thing. It will have an actual series ending.

however, I dont believe this fox cant pay the VAs for this year, even at a current 8 million. The simpsons are one of if not the biggest moneymaker for the network. They pull more then enough in, but Fox is just trying to flex its muscle and fight a dick measuring contest. theres no reason Fox cant let up some of its syndication money.

...

As for favorite episode, Id have to say its when bart sells his Soul.

Is this in any way related to Fox threatening them with the pay cut or something?

i bet this wont last, as much money the simpsons brings in i doubt they would end it. because call me crazy but i dont think adding another seth mcfarlene show will get them as much money through views or merchandise.

There's not much I can say about the show's demise without echoing what everyone else has already said. In its prime, The Simpsons was probably my favourite show of all time.

There's something to be said about the fact that the writers don't usually use the show to mock current events and pop culture, since apparently it takes almost a year to produce a series of episodes due to the quality of the animation (the exception being the chalkboard in the intro, which they can alter almost at a whim). Shows like South Park and Family Guy will conveniently always have material from whats happening in the world this week, so I think The Simpsons always had more of an uphill battle creatively. Given that disadvantage, the show will always have my respect even if they eventually had to resort to regurgitating old premises.

As for my favourite episode... I could never definately place my finger on that, but I guess it would be the episode where Homer stays home from church.

Only fourteen years overdue.

Anyone betting Comedy Central will try to resurrect it later?

I'm not sure why everyone says the quality has gone down, personally I love the newer episodes and think the old ones are kind of boring.

Maybe that's just because I was younger and didn't understand as many of the jokes back then.

If season 24 is the last season than I think a second movie needs to be made to officially end the series.

Oh, god... I just realized something; I think the world will actually end in 2012! Think about it...

First, a Black Man is made President of a country which is literally infamous for it's history of racism and black slavery.

Both of America's most wanted international criminals are caught and killed, depriving it's people from a tangible yet unattainable bogeyman.

Duke Nukem Forever, the game that was never made, is released, and despised.

Japan is struck by a tsunami which causes a nuclear meltdown; nearly two, in fact.

Fox cancels the show to outlast all shows, the mighty yellow Juggernaut itself, whose merchandise alone is paralleled only by mickey freaking mouse...

and on December 12, 2012, 'Yog Sethis the Silent God will open its' twelve mouths for the first time, and so shall be sung the Song of Destruction, and I will weep tears of blood, for it will be the end of days. As the world fades into madness, His name will be on our lips:

'Yog Sethis! Ia! Ia!

Nothing is confirmed yet, but I'm awaiting the end of the show. I use to love it, it was the only thing that brought me close to my own dysfunctional family. Now it's crap and my family isn't really together (These two events are not really related).
