Yeah this pure DLC bait just like weather and hot tubs before it, pools are a basic feature we've come to expect and nothing gets people to buy DLCs like these big features.

What scares me is the fact that this is likely going to be an Origin exclusive and without steam sales to make the dlc reasonably priced exactly how expensive are these things going to be? It cost me $200 to get Sims 3 and half the DLC DURING a steam sale so unless Origin can drop some %80 off sales lasting at least a week I'm just not going to bother with series.

THIS IS A GODDAMN OUTRAGE!! Now I have to drown real toddlers, and real toddlers are so messy...

But seriously, I'm not even surprised. This game is shaping up to be one that will be as buggy, broken, and devoid of content as The Sims 3.

No pools, toddlers, drivable cars, and the only town that ships with the game will have less space in it than the all three of the ones that shipped with The Sims 2.

I'll keep playing The Sims 2, which has cars, hot tubs, big towns, toddlers, and pools, countless mods to make it customizable and playable for anyone who wants to do anything, and laugh at all the silly people trading in the updated graphics for a woefully empty game devoid of anything that is actually fun.

I am so sick of being LIED to. Obvious lies! Ridiculous lies!

Not possible? NOT POSSIBLE!? You've done it all at least TWICE before!!

Aren't you tired of it, EA? Aren't you tired of constantly being in the running of 'Worst Company in America'? Aren't you tired of the critical press and reactions from your fans?

Is it really so hard to make money AND good games?

Jeez! It's like every time you come up with a game I might be interested in...or something that I'm already a fan of...you do something to taint it and bury any value it might have under a mountain of needless bullshit.

It's not that I enjoy boycotting you EA -skipping ME3 was one of the most agonizing decisions I had to make as a gamer- but you give me NO CHOICE! You can't gate content I already have and expect me to thank you for it and hand you more money. You. Just. Can't.

Get it together, you silly bastards.

Oh please, I don't even play the Sims but excluding pools? like really? that is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
That's not even half of it. They didn't even have basic features like basements until an expansion pack for the Sims 3 put it in. Prior to that, you had to jury-rig your own basement by digging a giant hole in the ground and just building there. And even then it would warp the surrounding terrain because the dev team's apparently never heard of retaining walls.

I'll freely admit to playing the Sims, even though it's supposedly for casuals, but the obvious cash-grab the franchise has become is just ludicrous. I mean, hiding basic features of the Sims in expansion packs, expecting the player to shell out twenty bucks or more for each and every one, and then announcing the Sims 4 before the last one even comes out? Classy, EA. Real classy. Might as well sent the player a letter saying the two-hundred plus bucks they may have spent on the game will be replaced and made obsolete in a year or so.

I'd get upset but I already decided I'm not buying the game - or if I do, it'll be some time after it's released and it's getting bundled with it's EPs for, like, ten dollars. That's what I did with a lot of the Sims 3.

"And though pool building won?t be available in September"
This basically says "it will come later"
In a patch or dlc, does not really matter. What I am wondering is why pools? Of all the things, why pools?

Does the new graphic engine have a problem with water?
Did they think people didn't care that much about pools?
Didn't they have time?

They have been able to include pools in every game so far, so what the hell.

If it had been anything else that was not that important I would get it, but not this. Toddlers I can sort of understand.

Well, let's get in to this. I'm actually a real big fan of the Sims and have been playing since it first came. Even now I have every expansion pack to TS3 and pre-ordered The Sims 4. Since I'm that into the game I've been following the news real closely. And believe, a lot of simmers are really whiny about these exclusions. I'm not btw. It's stated in the original article:

"And while we recognize that some of you will be disappointed that pools and toddlers won?t be available when The Sims 4 Base Game launches in September, you should know that we?re building an incredibly strong foundation that is capable of fulfilling every one of your desires in the years to come."

And having seen a few tweets from the sims team they really intend to include toddlers as soon as possible. They also considering adding a pre-teen life-stage. This game have been terribly delayed already and since they first stated that toddlers would be included it's likely they hit a snatch and decided to launch the game first and then fix the snatch and include it.

Regarding Create-a-style; that's the main reason why TS3 tends to be lagging and most simmers doesn't have a gamer computer. Just an ordinary one that's not strong enough to handle the amount of information needed. And if you install even more stuff, that's just that much more information for the computer to process. Not to mention cheats tends to mess with the computer to.

But I'm not going to let people trash-talk a game they barely know! Just look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtPdobUT-_o&index=2&list=WL (I don't know how to in-bed it). It's just amazing and so much stuff even when it's a base game. It's much more stuff and more interesting stuff than has ever shipped with a sims base game. Most of the nice stuff in TS3 came with the expansions. Oh, this video is also nice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nrEtPITILU

More Maxisspeak saying they're too lazy to animate smaller models for this.

"...has sparked an outrage among The Sims fanbase which has enjoyed toddlers..."

That just sounds so wrong XD

OT: No pools....really? Wasn't aware coding pools (something that has been in every Sims game since 2000) was so hard to do. Guess when they say "we're building an incredibly strong foundation that is capable of fulfilling every one of your desires in the years to come" that is just them admitting that they are cutting everything they can out for expansions to sell content back later on.

Including your desire to have pools, but not at launch, they'll come later with the Summertime Fun expansion for $39.99. Just like how The Sims 3 stripped a lot of base features out of the Sims 2 and sold them back as parts of expansions.

Know what would be a really great expansion? One for The Sims 3 that fixes all of the bugs that build up from running all the previous expansions. Without mods to fix things like routing and doing background cleanup, the game is damn near unplayable in it's current state, and in some cases you'll still have a gamebreaking bug that'll cause you to lose your family (World Adventures traveling was a mess with it). But no, as someone else mentioned, the forums look pretty much like this: "omg, lost all my progress, fix these stupid bugs EA! Oh, and when does the next stuff pack come out? I want to preorder the gold version for extra stuff."

It was very, very obvious how stripped TS3 was with a focus on insulting microtransactions and bare bones expansions. I 'love' how even with 50% off the DLC on Steam comes to £164-ish and that's without the actual microtransactions. It really doesn't help that the game throws "Plz moar monies" in your face as soon as you load it.

I want to say that EA will dig themselves into a hole because more people will be alienated buuuut...

See, that's what I don't understand. I saw this elsewhere today as well. How come it's perceived as "whining"? Do you really WANT to spend another several hundred dollars on a game when it's so openly ripping you off from the get-go? Just send them your credit card info, get it over with quick like tearing off a band-aid.

It's not, to me at least, about the exclusions anyways. It's EA treating the consumers like idiots, hoping we'll keep throwing money at them while they can get away with giving us a less than adequate game. I'd honestly respect them more if they just said "We're not doing pools because fuck you. Give us money". At least it would be honest.

See: We know you suckers will buy it later anyway. Stay tuned after Sims 4 to see what features we're removing to sell later for Sims 5.

Coming soon: The Sims 4 Female DLC! Because there weren't enough resources to put them in the main game!
My thoughts exactly.

I'm pretty sure in the age of digital downloads and patches, yes it is possible. I'm also fairly certain they've done so for the past few games.
Not to forget the fact that they created a micro transaction system for more worlds and brand new furnishings on top of the expansions with new features they release on a semi-monthly schedule

Why give it to us when you can sell it to us, just be honest.

So what happens when your sims procreate? The mom just pops out a preteen? How is that even going to work?

I love The Sims, but it's like the posterboy for piracy.

You get a few choices with The Sims:
Buying the base game and being unhappy with the lack of content compared to the previous iteration.
Buying the base game and the expansions, enjoying the game as intended, getting everything from the previous game, plus some extras and the visual/mechanical upgrade at serious personal expense, probably upwards of £150 in total.
Pirating the whole damn thing and enjoying the game as intended, for free.

If Maxis/EA just priced and developed the damn game a bit more sensibly, people might not be so inclined to pirate the damn thing. I wonder what the actual piracy figures are like for The Sims, I'd imagine they're pretty high.

Note: I am not advocating piracy. I'm just saying, shit like this is the reason why people pirate games.

It's all good. You're just saying what everyone is already thinking.

Ok, so they had a budget and adding toddlers and pools would have increased the cost too much. Not sure what there is to complain about.

I we going to mock companies for not having a smart budget and going out of business at the same time we ***** about a company not having a blank check to make a game have everything ever?

If it is DLC, then of course.

I consider it whining since I've seen ALL the time ever since the announcement of the game. It's extremely tiring. I'm following The Sims on Facebook and every single time they post a shot from the game people are gripping about stuff. Always! I think the game looks amazing. I can't wait to try it out!
You see, The Sims is really the only game I've ever enjoyed so I can deal with the high cost. I don't buy things in the sims store and I don't use mods. My only stuff packs were either real cheap or given to me. But you see, since I'm not buying things from the store, and all my expansions have a CD my actual annual cost is pretty low. And considering I spend a lots of hours with the game, it's worth it.

I a simmer, that's what I am. And everything I seen in the game looks gorgeous. The only thing I would miss if it's not in the base game is the possibility to have your own company (like author, painter and so on) and even then, I could make do anyway. Some gamers wait like crazy for Zelda, CoD, Super Mario, Assassins Creed and all those other titles. No one calls them stupid. No one thinks they are weird even when the game didn't turnout exactly how they liked it and still buying it.
I've been playing The Sims for 14 ys. One year and half ago I started thinking "The Sims 4 should be coming soon", and just a little while later, it was official. So is it really >that< weird I'm existed. Just two more month and I can finally do everything myself instead of scanning the net in search for even the tiniest news? This is my hobby. It's allowed to cost a bit. Most of my other hobbies are quite cheap after all.

And really, all that hating and whining because there are no pools? Geez, grow up people. They will come. In the meantime they should enjoy this brand new game and try out all the crazy stuff.
