Yea, I have a heart condition so I did a mail-in vote in KC, Missouri. No way for me track it at all.
Wouldn't that be a USPS problem? Or is that being undercut? Or its not mandatory for tracking? Like you have to pay extra?

I am fascinated by the minutiae of making postal votes secure. Not being in the US, also trying to find out info. We had a state election three days before the one the in the US. So I am directly comparing. Had plenty of postal votes across the state but I don't remember tracking being an thing. The issue is that we request postal ballots but they didn't arrive until the day before and they needed to be returned before election day. Which was a failure. I'd almost prefer everyone gets sent one with plenty of time to make sure you get a choice.

It also means I couldn't see our verification process as I immediately threw them out and didn't think to compare how they work and why the US one was 'seen' as so bad

Whatever, just wash your hands.
In news more directly related to the topic.

An Internet provider in Idaho is now blocking Twitter and Facebook access for all users due to the claims of Censorship by said platforms.

Archive for those not able to access it due to GDPR blocking in EU.
I feel like that actually violates law but I'm not sure what one. Not to mention is much worse then someone just being banned from a platform. Cause this is just a blanket block of services. But, I don't have any legal backing for any of this, this is really just a feeling and I'm bad at expressing why very well.

Keep in mind too, each state handles this differently. January 6th is the big election, election night is 50 smaller elections.

My limited understanding is some states have databases basically asking for you name and then telling you if your vote was received or not and if it was rejected over signature discrepancies or not.

That's kind of like saying "If heroin were so addictive, it'd would have destroyed the country by now!"
You have literally been arguing that if we let a teeny bit of censorship slip through the door, eventually we'll all have to be reporting what we say in triplicate to the Stasi. But there has always been censorship. So under your argument, it could only get worse.

The Hays Code was created to limit what Hollywood would put in its films. Socialists were blacklisted. Did it just get worse from there? No, they eventually just dumped it all. Things move back and forth.

And who defines what "irresponsible" is?
The people, in a democracy.

Well net neutrality was repealed so it no longer is against the rules. Internet companies can and will block access to whatever they like now.

Yup, Missouri doesn't have a database for that so I have no idea if my vote was counted or not, and the only reason we don't have it is because of our Governor who is also a dummy that hosted a party during COVID, got COVID, and then still continued to parrot how it's not a big deal. It's very weird living in the Midwest cause Kansas City takes COVID very seriously, but as soon as your outside of city limits, you're around the people that don't take it seriously and call you names for wearing the mask.

Like you can do what you want, but I have a heart condition so I'm not taking any chances lol so what does it matter to you? People are weird.

Does it really matter?
I'd say that the biggest threat to free speech is people who take it upon themselves to decide what is and isn't a "responsible use of free speech".
I personally think the biggest threat to free speech, is the people who think they have the right not only for everybody else to stop, listen, and take in what they are saying, and then pass that it on unquestionably. But that is purely my opinion.

As Nick said in Post #38, its the private platforms that ultimately can decide what they want on said platforms. No one else.

If you disagree with what they allow you to say, find somewhere else, or engage in some good 'ol American Capitalism and create your own platform with your own rules.

Trump is lucky that Twitter didn't ban his private account years ago. They could have done that regardless of his Presidential status, as there is an actual Twitter account specifically for the POTUS. This will be handed over to Biden as soon as he takes office.

Yup, that's basically it. The POTUS account is a public information account, and that's the only reason he wasn't using that account to spread his conspiracy garbage. His private account should have been held to the same standards as any other person, unless Twitter's term's explicitly say, "the President's personal account is exempt from our normal rules".

That would have been his only defense when it came to getting banned from Twitter and other platforms. He's still the President, if he needs to make an official FACTUAL or PSA statement, he can still use the POTUS account to do so.

Sometimes things don't move back and forth. We still have the TSA, thanks to 9/11. In some places, it's still illegal to deny the holocaust.

Could censorship creep backwards? Possibly. Can heroin addicts recover? Possibly. But it's far better to never start down that path.
Disaster may not be inevitable, but let's not tempt it.

That didn't work out so great for Parler, did it?

Well, I wouldn't call what Trump did on Twitter a secret but he sure did divide the country. Broke it in half way better than an Social Media could do
"secretly influencing public access to" means manipulating/suppressing search results or trending topics. It's only tangentially related to kicking off Trump, because both are defended by the same "PrIvAtE cOmPaNy" phrase.
