Was Metal Gear so difficult?

Well the link is to 'kotaku.com' and has a picture of a seemingly happy asian man. Scanning over that list it seems that most of the games are Japanese. I guess I'm trying to say there may be some bias from that website, after all nobody has played every game in the world.

Demon's Souls does not deserve to be on the list from what I hear.

It's hard the first time through, because it deliberately gives you a slim-to-none chance, then you can waltz through a following time, because everything is exactly the same. It's just like playing a platformer where every jump is JUST at the reach of your character, and you need to time the jumps perfectly.

Ikaruga and Battletoads have earned their places.

I'm sure I've played much harder games than MGS, but I don't play on European Extreme.

Metal Gear on Extreme to get No Alerts, That IS difficult. In fact on normal, I found the game challenging, and I played it recently! And having Demons Souls there just makes me want it more! IT'S A DAMN CHALLENGE TO MY GAMING PROFILE!

Ninja Gaiden Black does not deserve the top spot on the list, though. It's hard, but not THAT hard.

Demon's souls doesn't deserve to be in the Top 25, yet alone the top 10. It's not that hard, either, from the little I've played. It's frustrating as fuck, though.

Now, the Star Ocean games' optional bosses on their highest difficulty...Those guys are fucking evil.

Nice to see that someone finally recognizes the absolutely mind-boggling difficulty of Jet Set Willy for once, although it does seem rather low (especially in comparison to MGS).

MGS wasn't hard by any stretch, so I'm not sure what it's doing on the list. Hell, Riven was harder.

I pwned Ninja Gaiden on all difficulty settings; it took quite some effort, but come on: you got a LIGHTSABER eventually!!! Well worth the price of some snapped controllers

But seriously, some unmentioned games have bugs that make parts impossible, doesn't that count towards the game being hard? Nah, probably more unfair I guess.

Anyone notice the only recent game is Demon's Souls? Almost proof games where hardest in the 80's and early nineties ^^

And to be fair you can't really say, this game was hard on hard mode. That's defeating the purpose of a hard game. A game should be judged on the experience of normal mode. That's like saying KOF 99 is hard if you put it on difficulty 10.

Okay, can anyone explain to me what these games are doing on a hard games list?

Metal Gear Solid is in no way hard. It's not a game you play for a challenge or the difficulty, but for the story.

Devil May Cry 3. Don't make me laugh, On my first playthrough of that game I got through half the game without dying once. I beat the game without unlocking Easy Mode (you unlock that by dying a few times).

Contra, I still don't get why people say it's hard. I beat it without using the code or stressing... on my first ever playthrough.

Ninja Gaiden games are not hard either. They may be cheap and fast paced, but hard is the last word to describe them.

Also, where the hell is I Wanna Be The Guy?

I would have said one of the Commandos games (commandos 2, most ridiculous TUTORIAL ever!) deserves to be up there...

Honestly, Ninja Gaiden was pretty hard, but it wasn't that bad. By the time you get halfway though, the game's done a good enough job of shredding your reflex system and rebuilding it out of lightning and crack that the rest isn't all that bad. I aced the final chapter without a problem.

The part I couldn't get past to this day is the part where the boss drops you like a bad habit. I can get all the way to the boss with the lightning, but afterwards, it's just all kinds of death and destruction.

I gotta play now.

Put it on the hardest and there you have it, a damn hard game. You play it for the story the first time, then if you want a challenge. you can put it on hard.

A game should be judged on the experience of normal mode. That's like saying KOF 99 is hard if you put it on difficulty 10.

It's about how hard the game is when you make it as hard as possible, so there is probably harder games.

Keep in mind this is just one persons opinion.
