Old Boy is one of my top 5 movies of all time, a work of utter genius. Lady Vengeance, though torture to watch in some parts, is also fantastic.

By torture, do you mean that you don't like the quality of certain parts to the point of them being painful, or is it because they are so powerful that you can't watch?

Because if it's the latter, I totally feel you. The part when the parents are informed is so hard to watch.

I mean that the subject matter is so dark and horrific that it is torturous for the mind... in otherwords he did what he was trying to do perfectly.

That part was heartbreaking.

Claw hammer in a hallway... just thinking about it makes me all misty eyed.

By far one of the greatest fight scenes ever.

It's certainly up there. If you have seen Ong Bak there is a sequence that is easily as awesome, if you haven't go now and fix that... seriously, get your wallet, go to a place and rent that movie.

Reminiscing over my last review, I said that in Asia, they make horror films of much higher quality than most of those done in the west. I'd like to expand upon that statement and say that Asian cinema doesn't just do horror better, it practically does everything better.

Hmm... I have to disagree in general, as it all depends on your point of view.

They do have a number of great and unique films, which western productions/directors just don't seem able to understand or replicate even closely. But they also have an abundance of 'crazy' trash, much like their Hollywood equivalents.

You do have a point, but I stand with what I said, because as far as I've seen, Asia has much more creative freedom with their films.

Well... Maybe not so much with North Korea...

Oh yeah, can't deny that.

On a related note, I find their humor much more entertaining than Western films, but mainly from their older films (70s-90s).

Like Mr. Vampire, Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle etc. I got to admit that sometimes I'm not sure if they're intent is humor or not - The Host for example.

Should I be ashamed over never having seen that movie?

Oh well, I'll just buy it the next time I see it.
