"Sigh, I guess," Grace grudgingly agreed with the sentiment. "Do we at least have a plan? Who's going to take care of the traps in the city hall? I mean, I can't, I'd probably set off four at once."

"It's dangerous here. The townsfolk are in disarray. My personal opinion is to cancel the ceremony, unless a doppelganger may present her speech instead."

With that, Aurelius cast a careful eye at the females of the group...

"You probably would Grace, knowing how clumsy you are. I agree with Aurellius. The town will definitely attack when they find out she is her. We need an exit strategy in case there are too many of them."

Kylar glanced at the carriage, hoping for some kind of break.

"My my, we don't even know if the princess is in there... I wager none of you saw her board?" Trent joked around. Kylar had seen the hall and the traps, maybe he knew how to disarm them, but that didn't solve the security risk. Trents mind wheeled as scenario after scenario took shape in his head. A riot could be handled easily, no organized system meant a show of power could subdue a crowd easily. The tougher problem would be assassinations, but as Aurelius had said, a substitute could solve that.

"Well," Trent said, "I suppose if we are positioned between the crowd and the princess or at the front of the crowd we could stop anything major from happening. We'll will also need an exit strategy to evacuate quickly, and, of course, need to remove a few traps. Considering that only a few people set them up the could work to our advantage in crowd control."

"Yeah, I don't think sticking me up on stage is going to work out too well," Grace admitted. "I don't think I can pull off princess very well."

Although I sure wouldn't mind the opportunity to try. I could probably pull it off.

"I think yeah, if we can position ourselves properly in the hall, you know a couple up front, a couple on the side, one up in the rafters, we could pretty much take out whatever this dinky little town tries to throw at us."

Thanatos looked at Grace intently. "If I may..." He turned her face left and right, memorizing the details. "I have a buddy who lives around here. He is a master of makeovers. He could make a bear look like a king. I think he would have no trouble making Grace here look like the princess."

"Cygnus, have you not felt anything suspicious about this?" Misa asks.

"We get tasked on a mission basically without any intel, a day and a bit before. The locals are hostile and now one of the leaders is missing? I think there is something going on we couldn't unearth, don't you feel it to?"

"And to top it off, they have 'traps' set up in the main building, I don't know about you, but I cannot see the point in risking all of our lives on this trap..." she shrugs, "gut feeling, but I feel wrong about this..."

Cygnus shook his head. "Why did you think I've been keeping quiet this entire time? I've been trying to think of this whole thing. Nothing is adding up." he sighed, looked down and continued: "Let's say we do continue with this. We can't put the princess in danger, so we'd replace her with Grace and see what happens. Given this place is rundown, downright shabby and nearly falling apart... a simple robe like Grace's would be flashy enough to take the place. No need for a complete makeover. Given the way she usually acts, eccentricity could be the keyword here. A slightly odd princess sporting less regal wear than usual is not all too uncommon. Besides, nobody knows what she really looks like."
Cygnus looked over to the carriage. "There's still one problem if we do this. Who takes care of the princess? Or the carriage?"

He tried pushing away hair that wasn't there, an old habbit from when he still had long hair that never really left. Especially when deep in thought. "As much as I want to leave here as soon as possible, I also want to know who it is that's plotting against the princess here. What if we go away now and the people here become an even bigger problem in the future?"

"Wait, wait, seriously? You think.....no, no.....really?" Grace didn't know what to say now. Almost everyone seemed to be thinking this would work. Misa had reservations, she usually was the serious one. "I......I dunno......maybe...if you guys think I can..."

"Sure you can do it, Gracie." Jarod finally pops in after staying quiet. "I have complete and utter confidence in you. You are already a royal pain in the ass. How much more difficult is it to be actual royalty? As for protection of the princess, I could protect her."

"Gee, thanks Jarod," Grace replied, hidden annoyance present in her voice. "Remind me to freeze you in your bed when we get back. But all right, I mean, if you guys think I can do this, then OK, I'll do it."

"Good choice Grace, besides I'm sure you can handle yourself if shit decides to go and hit the fan". Kylar glanced around at those present before continuing, "We can defend the hall well on our own from simple townsfolk though we can't just leave the carriage unattended. Has anyone even checked if the princess is inside of the damn thing."

"I'd rather not question the Ministers and their orders, as much as I feel uneasy about this. I have to admit it being odd that we haven't gotten a single sign of life from in there." Cygnus said as he eyed the carriage. "Next thing you'll say that the Ministers sent us into this mess on purpose..."

"I really, really hope you're wrong on that Cyg," Grace noted. "Otherwise I'm going to be doing this for no apparent reason and I don't even like doing the things I have a reason for doing!"

"Even if that was the case, you won't be doing this for nothing, Grace." Cygnus tried to reassure her. "In any case, we're going to find out just how much trouble we're into with the speech. We might even find out who are behind it, or get a possible lead."

Cygnus started shifting his weight uneasily. "Since no one has volunteered yet, I'm taking the position of guarding the carriage. If there is an attack, we'll open the carriage and tell the princess. It's the least we should do in that case anyway." Not to mention a good excuse to open that thing and look inside... Why am I even doubting this? She has to be in there. She just has to.

Retran finally spoke, "Why take all this risk for nothing? Personally I would prefer that we confirm that Her Highness is even present," he cracked his neck, "Then I will guard her, nothing goes through my armour and myself," he said this with absolute confidence.

He walked up to Cygnus, "Blind loyalty gets you nowhere, once and a while you need to challenge your believes to give them a chance to strengthen themselves. You know this; why do you delay?"

"Because, if you go against orders," Misa mutter duly, "you die..."

She shrugs staring at Retran, "you think Nathaniel went AWOL? No, you can't leave the Vertix alive...he was killed. Think about it, they've had us since birth, who says they can't do so?"

Once more Misa shrugs. "It's your choice, if you wish to die by disobeying him, do so, just don't force others to do the same."

After rethinking possible strategies, Jarod raises his hand "I have a suggestion. We put two Golems next to the princess, Guerrillas in the crowds, and the Hunters and Mages on the roof tops. That way, the princess can keep face and the Vertix members can stay alive."

"We're not sure about the traps yet. There could be any manner of things that slipped past the guerillas while they were in trouble and they could have built up even worse things in the meantime. Add to that the fact we still don't know what happened to Jon. Even a perfect guard is too much of a risk in this case." Cygnus shrugged. "At this point, all I care for is finding out what is wrong with this place, and who is after the princess. It seems to me she's been brought here for all the wrong reasons."

"OK, um, but what am I going to say?" Grace asked. "If they're expecting this huge speech and stuff, aren't they going to figure out I'm not a princess if I go on about like shoes and stuff? Cause I know me, I'll probably do that if I'm up there too long."
