And now it's time for one of those "Ventilation" threads!
I'm sure we've all encountered...that character. They're the character who makes the very game they're in worse simply due to their inclusion. Maybe they're annoying, maybe they're stupid, or maybe you just flat out hate them. Feel free to name these characters and give as long a list you like to describe how much you hate them, or simply express your desire to bash them over the head with a sledgehammer. Remember, there are no wrong answers!
OT: I've got one:

HER...
(Sarah Flores from Alone in the Dark)
She has to quite possibly be one of the worst support characters ever. Every time she shows up, the game instantly gets at least x40 worse. Not only because she's so annoying, but because all of the sections that involve her, saving her, or transporting her are incredibly frustrating. The worst part is that she WON'T DIE. Other annoying support characters usually can be killed, by monsters or by you, even if it results in a Game Over, you still get a small amount of satisfaction from it. But Sarah... you can wail on her with a fire axe forever and nothing will happen. When monsters show up, they only go after you, and she sits in a corner and whines about them. Even when she stops breathing and you have to perform CPR on her, no matter how much you put it off she won't die.
And they say that the ending where you shoot her is the BAD ending!
I know the game doesn't have the best reputation, and I can see why; but I honestly think that if she wasn't in it, people would've liked it a lot better. If you were actually, you know, ALONE in a game called "Alone in the Dark".
the ending was really dumb.

but i was not suprised finding myself dealing with this type of sidekick after experiencing such delightful writing early in the game:
Well, we must remember that this is supposedly the same Edward Carnby who spent most of the first game kicking otherworldly Lovecraftian horrors in the dick.
But, agreed. Some of the lines in this game were really funny. Especially the one from 0:55 to 1:02 in this video.
I managed to make a very amusing photoshop picture based on that line.
For what it was worth, though, I hope they make a sequel. The game had so many wonderful ideas drowned out by awful execution, and I was happy that they decided to continue with the plot of the old Alone in the Dark games, rather than just abandoning everything previously established and copying Resident Evil (coughNewNightmarecough). Now if only they had done it RIGHT.

Charmy Bee from the Sonic series. From a gameplay perspective he adds nothing new and at his best just breaks games and at his worst is a pathetic clone. Personality wise...good lord he is one of the most annoying things ever. He is just the worst.

Not sure how many people here will know him, but Mud from the first Gothic game. Annoying little shit who would follow you around everywhere and not shut up 'til you beat him up... and he is fast as hell, so you can't even catch him :/

Cloud is this emo guy who whines and complains about everything until the very last second of the game.
No he didn't... Did you even play FFVII? I don't recall that at all.

He was pretty much a clone of Zack Fair - who is not a whiny emo. he only time Cloud even had an issue was after a serious mind rape by Jenova/Sephiroth over his own identity... I never could understand why people call Cloud "emo" in FFVII. Advent Children maybe - but not the original game.
Yeah, he was. His friends are there to support him all along and he keeps pushing them away. Compared to other FF character, he is pretty depressing. Tifa's there all along but it's as if she doesn't exist.
I understand why he was "sad". The whole identity crisis and watching a loved one die and he's tormented by all that and I was actually happy when the game ended because I figured he got over it and all was resolved (Although the ending didn't make that clear). But then, as you said it, Advent Children happened.

(EDIT: There's one character from Dark Souls that pissed me off a lot. As soon as you finish the Tutorial portion at the beginning (If it can be called that), you meet this NPC at some cementery/hill/ruins/whatever. I talked to the guy and all and decided to leave. Still not familiar with the game and being the first NPC that I've encountered, I started testing my combat skills. I hit the guy...what, twice? Next thing I know, the guy chases me all over the place and kills me. I come back to life and he's waiting for me. And kills me. That went on and off for about 20 minutes. I tried running away, fighting back, getting more enemies to fight him off (I died faster) and nothing. Finally, he fell off a cliff or something. But god, I hated that guy. I thought it was a dumb idea to have such thing happen so early into the game. I know the game is supposed to be insanely hard and stuff but that kinda ruined my experience. If it wasn't because he fell off a cliff, I could have been stuck there for days. All because of that horrible character.
Yeah, I returned the game shortly after that.)
Short answer - you attacked an innocent NPC and were surprised to find out they could and did mess your shit up. Is that right? You deserved it. At least he wasn't important.
Oh, okay. So I guess it's fine because, you know, I didn't know better. Like slapping a three-legged puppy for peeing in the carpet.

I know the game is supposed to have an insane difficulty curve and all. But considering the fact I was a brand new player to the franchise, I thought that was pretty dumb. I'm not saying "Durr! Guy attacked me for no reason at all! WTF?". I know why he attacked me. You said yourself; I was surprised to find out they could attack me. What pissed me off was the fact that he was relentless about it.
If he would have attacked me once, I would have learned my lesson and being more careful throughout the game. You know, that was a good hands-on experience. At least I know this game is different from what I know (NPCs are immortal). If he would have attacked me twice, I could have probably learned my lesson a bit faster. But I'm talking about respawning and the guy attacking me not even 5 seconds after that. And mind you, being a new player, I was still getting the hang of the controllers, which is why I was testing my combat skills before venturing into who-knows-what. That was just dumb. I wouldn't be surprised if other people were also turned off by that NPC. Is the game good? Probably, but I'll never find out. That's just me.

You know that one character in Legend of Zelda? You know, the one who says "Hey! Look! Listen!". I wonder what it was called.
There is a 92.444444% chance that her name was Navi. There is a 23.151% chance that you have played Skyward Sword, and if that is the case, there is a 41.3029% chance that this statement will send you into a fit of rage.

Additionally, there is an 82.1134 chance that your batteries are running low.
GODDAMIT! Where's that fairy?! Bring it back here! I'd take a fairy over a blue paraphrasing goddess of whatever any day of the week!

Oh, wait. My batteries ARE running low...

Miranda from Mass Effect 2
Hated her the second I hear her say "I'm Sheperds Second in Command" when I would sooner put into the airlock and ACCIDENTELY hit the open buttom, and the way she dresses...SPANDEX EVERYTHING
Yus! she's the definition of an entitled *****... nothing about her character is likeable in the slightest... and her entire backstory is "My father made me perfect, so I stole my infant sister, against her will, and ran away, across the galaxies, to join a terrorist group..." there's literlly no reason to give her any amount of sympathy in ME2 and barely any in ME3... Seeing as how Bioware went out of their way to make her dad cartoonishly evil, just to try and Salvage this terrible character that everyone put up with just at a chance to see her naked...<.<
I will not say I hated her but I will say I didn't give two shits about her witch is much worse

LET IT ALL END

I see videos of gameplay from the recent Sonic games, and every time the rad-awesome-dude little shit opens his mouth I want to throw him into a dimension where there is only suffering. It's not so much the horrible lame-in-the-90s dialogue, or the fact that the voice-"actor" seems to get paid based on how much he can make players cringe, but the fact that of all the horrible, horrible characters in the bloated corpse of the Sonic games he is king, and nobody dare tell the king to shut his trap.

Fi from Skyward Sword, or the big purple star from Mario Galaxy 2 that tells me to take a break after 30 minutes of play. I'VE PLAYED GAMES FOR 14 YEARS, I THINK I CAN GO ANOTHER HOUR OR SO!

...

Oh wait, I thought this was the BEST video game character ever thread. >_>

OT: For me that would probably be Silver the Hedgehog. I hated that little fucker ever since my fight with him.

"IT'S NO USE!"

"TAKE THIS!"

"IT'S NO USE!"

"TAKE THIS!"

"IT'S NO USE!"

"TAKE THIS!"

Ironically though, I loved his ending theme song "Dreams of an Absolution" :/

As anyone knows, there are many choices for this category, but one stands above all else for me.
I hate Kratos. I hate him with such a passion, it hurts. This man is willing to destroy the entire world with a temper tantrum, which is generally what all the games are. Not to mention, everyone thinks he's SO BADASS!!! just because he goes off and kills everything that he sees, without even realizing he's being played, and because he somehow manages to fuck every girl he sees. Without a doubt, I think he's the worst character ever.
Being a huge fan of the God of War series, you might just scroll over my post right now, but I think why people, or rather why I like Kratos so much is because he is the epitome of manliness. All of his betrayals were painfully obvious, but he makes it a very good point that, you fuck with him, you will get brutally fucking murdered, which is why he kinda gets away with being a tool for whoever manages to use him in my opinion (even though as the player I have to constantly clean up the mess he leaves behind as a result). He bloody well killed gods bro....GODS, he made the entirety of Mt. Olympus his ***** after getting played. And I'm not sure if it was intentionl or not, but him being easily manipulable kinda makes sense, Spartans were a brutal race of army men who decimated with their strength, but might not have been too bright (I'm not entirely sure how intelligent Spartans were on average). Though I do wholly agree that him getting it on with women at random points in all of the games is silly and awkward, again it comes down to Spartans being a great symbol of strength and manliness, and also the fact that back then, giving birth to a boy eventually meant (most of the time) another man for the army, which would possibly introduce honour into ones family. Ultimately I think I admire him because he would destroy the entire fucking planet for his vengeance, witnessing the full extent of ones wrath is something I oddly enjoy. Sorry for the long post -.-

Fair enough. I figured that at least some people like him, that's why the game series lasted for so (too) long. ;3 But anyway, I know that the average Spartan was quite intelligent, as their kind invented Laconic whit, and a lot of them were quite great at being the snarker. To me, I don't see it being very realistic that a demi-god somehow can kill everything. And no offense, but I just don't see him as being that manly, just because he can throw a temper tantrum that can level a city or kills anyone that says he makes bad cupcakes (horrific generalization, I know). When it comes to the sex thing, I don't really think it fits the character of a man who was grieving his family (the whole damn reason for the first game) to drop trough for anything with a vag. I feel the opposite toward the planet thing, because it just shows that he's dumb enough to fuck up everything just to get petty revenge. He won't be able to live anywhere if everything is destroyed. (How does one kill a god, anyway? Aren't the immortal? Do they ascend to a higher plane? Who knows.) I thank you for not being YOU NO LIKE KRATOS, YOU NOT MANLY (once again, horrific generalization) or just too argumentative in your rebuttal :3.

Wait, is this a thread about the overall worst-designed-in-every-aspect-video-game-character, or just the one you personally hate the most?

Because the answers I'm seeing here lean more toward the latter.
