Hello all!

I have quick question. Does anyone own Thief through Steam? I love this game and was going to download it on my laptop, but then I saw this :

"Thief: Deadly Shadows does not support play on laptop computers."

This made me sad to no end, but is it true and/or still valid? Anyone know? Answers are greatly appreciated. Forgive the writing, English isn't first language.

A game doesnt support laptops? I assumed if it supported a type of windows, then it worked on pcs and laptops.

I know...that's what I found to be awkward. I just didn't want to spent 20 dollars on software I can't use, haha.

Not entirely sure but usually publisher/developer (or whoever it is) tells you that laptop graphic cards are not supported but might work. Basically, if your gpu is strong enough to run the game (compared to regular, tabletop gpus that can run the game) it should run the game without any problems.

Not 100% sure with such an old game but I hope that helps a bit at least.

EDIT: Did a google search and came up with something like this: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/thief3/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-43418448&pid=528587 . Seems good.

I would contact Steam support. They're likely more reliable than a bunch of hairy dudes on an internet forum.

Hahaha...well the hairy dudes here were much more helpful than GameFAQs residential hairiness. I do have Deus Ex II on my laptop, so I foresee no problem with Thief. Thank you all, once again for the quick (and ACTUAL) answers. :)

I played through the whole game on a pretty new laptop (2008) without any problems. I was a bit worried when I got it too, but it turned out fine. I would think it would run on most modern laptops that are decently powerful, although of course I can't guarantee it.

It's a very good game, you'll be pleased with your purchase I think :)

It's old enough that it should work on a reasonably modern laptop. Definitely worth playing. It features one of my favorite levels of all time (Shalebridge Cradle).

A key thing to remember is that "not supported" does not equal "will not run". It's just that they don't recommend it and can't provide you with technical support or advice should the game end up not running. The game runs on the Unreal 3 engine (if I recall correctly) although with a heavily-modified lighting routine, so if you've had no trouble with other games on that engine then your odds are fair.

*looks at Thief Deadly Shadows icon on desktop, then at my laptop* Yeah, I'd say it works just fine. It's a pretty old game so any newer laptop will be able to run it. I don't own it through Steam, but there really shouldn't be a difference, should there?

And you can take my word for it because I'm not a hairy dude, I'm a rather hairless chick. =D

I have Thief: Deadly Shadows. Not from Steam, I bought a PC copy off the shelf. It runs on my laptop. The only trouble I had was that it didn't like running on a dual core processor, so I had to fix it so it only ran off one, but other than that, smooth sailing. I can't see you having any troubles if your laptop isn't ancient.

Meh if only the first 2 were on steam, I'd get them, at the moment I'm saving up for the 'Thief pack' or whatever it is called. All 3 games for a good price..... too bad it's not steam :(. First thief was the best!
