Things that instantly kill your interest in a game

Well escapist I was browsing GoG for a good strategy game. Clicking here and there at interesting titles when I caught myself instantly hitting the back button every time I read the phrase "Exciting turn based strategy". Now don't get me wrong I have nothing against the genre I just personally find it boring, not my cup of tea and all that.

So my lovely escapist what kills your interest in a title immediately upon reading the description?

EDIT: I love RTS by the way. Its turn based strategy that turns me off.

When I see these damming letters: 'RTS'

I've given RTS titles a chance but since I'm more of a console player than anything I never really had much of a selection of RTS titles. Starcraft was alright but I knew the cheats and I've never enjoyed any other. Also, PC exclusives. My current PC is powered by one very old and slightly over-weight gerbil so gaming isn't really an option for me on this machine.

When it's main selling point has nothing to do with the actual game. I'm looking at you Fable III, you and your hand-holding.

Have you tried Heroes of Might and Magic 3/4 or Battle for Wesnoth?

When it has a fantasy/medieval setting, but has no magic system or mage class.

When you have to play the rest of the series to make sense of anything.

REALISTIC gore. I'm cool with over-the-top gore, though. Like Gears and Bulletstorm and stuff.

I've tried Heroes of might and magic before and it wasn't the cream cheese to my bagel. Though this thread isn't about suggestions. Personally I rather not debate the merits of genre that I'm not really interested in. I'm sure they're great titles out there but at last it just not for me.

A bad soundtrack will immediately turn me off of any game. Also the type of setting can do that as well. A good game set in a drab, distopian or depressing or bland landscape can make me have no interest in it. One of the reasons I'm not in a hurry to play Deus Ex.

Up until I played Deus Ex, if I saw the publisher was Squeenix - I'd give that game a very wide berth. I still feel the same way about anything by Capcom, too. I guess I'm just not fond of Japanese games. They're a little too strange for my tastes.

But gameplay wise - the escort mission. The minute I hear "please escort..." I roll my eyes.

Square Enix owns all of Eidos now, and has shown very little influence in their development. So, don't be turned off by their name on the box of an Western developed game.

Any mention of the female anatomy other than, say, a "sharp eye" or "Quick trigger finger."

You know where this is going, and I don't have enough time to spend it on games whose very premise would annoy me.

MMO.

Yup, that's it. I hate MMO's, and when people try to recommend that Borderlands become an MMO in my presence, hell is going to break loose.

point and click games and the Command and Conquer type games where you just point to where you want something and let the game get on with the rest of it. it would even send the troops into combat for you, all you have to do is build the stuff in places around the base. not my thing

I have learned my lesson with Deus Ex. Though it's reassuring to know that Squeenix takes a hands off approach to the artistic process. Now that I played the near Godliness that is Deus Ex, I can't wait to see what other little gems Squeenix will help create.

A game that claims to offer freedom, but then f*cks up stealth (like Oblivion, or even the original Fable... no not the 199-whatever point'n'click adventure). It doesn't exactly kill all interest, but it certainly ruins the thing for me a bit.

RPG's that "Close doors behind you" so to speak, like if it has a stat growth system that requires you to be in this place wearing this item or something at a certain point, and just screws you if you didnt, or in a more literal sense, RPG's that just dont ever let you backtrack for stuff, that one chance and one chance only thing always makes me feel like Im constantly missing important stuff that Im going to wish i had later, and it drives me crazy.

It's why my favorite kinds of RPG's now are MMO's, sandboxes, and diablo style ones, because those all allow you to either repeat a mission, go back there again, or in the case of diablo, it doesnt matter if you missed something because its all randomly generated anyways.

You could say im horribly OCD about RPG's, I just hate knowing I can't go back and get things I missed.
