That ponies are not baby horses... I feel really stupid for learning this last week.

That Super Mario 64's 'Snowman's Land' level is actually a pun on No Man's Land. I kid you not, my mind was blown upon learning that.

The ABC and Twinkle Twinkle Star have the same melody.

And looking at these, I realized I am very easy to impress.

It took me well over a decade to understand that "sleeping together" meant "having a sexual relationship" and not just sharing the bed when nodding off.

It wasn't till I played Resident Evil 4 on the PS3 (by which point I had already played the shit out of it on the Gamecube) that I discovered I could steer the boat during the Del Lago fight. Before that I just took all the beating and was able to heal up, miraculously.

There was a section of the game in ?The Force Unleashed? where I was stuck trying to traverse what I thought was a particularly tricky platforming section.
In your defense that game was pretty bad in terms of level design and where to go. It's one of those games where if you see enemies you haven't fought, you're going in the right way. I remember hearing a section in one of the Half-Life 2 Episode's commentary mode where Valve would playtest by having the level designer watch players go through an area - only the level designer wasn't allowed to give clues or anything. This method would make the designer realize that a solution or path they initially thought was clear, at times wasn't, and they would improve their visual cues.

The Book of Eli as being a book or section of the bible. I just took it literally as it being about the book he carried around and not his tale.

That you can change faces and gender in Morrowind. I ended up picking the default male Wood Elf as my very first Morrowind character. I then saw the Silt Strider and panicked, turning off my xbox.

That was the first 10 minutes or so of my favorite game ever.

When I was in school(secondary, high school, whatever you want to call it) I spent 2 years doing mathematics, without understanding that using a calculator wasn't cheating, depending on what I was using it for. I still do not, to this very day, understand what the technicalities of this rule were, so I didn't use the calculator anyway, because I was too scared to shouted at by the teacher.

Welp, if you have a graphing calculator you can program functions and formulas into it, as well as take notes. I'd imagine that's what they consider "cheating". There are also some built in functions that allow you to bypass a lot of the comprehension they're testing you on, so I'd imagine that would also be considered cheating depending on the context, but it's really the teacher's fault if they don't explicitly forbade certain built in functions.

Many schools actually opt to teach most of their theory driven math courses without calculators, as is the case with my current calculus class. Not only does it prevent that confusion, but they write the homework and tests with that fact in mind. It keeps you from getting bogged down by these ridiculous irrational numbers when you're just trying to learn how to find the area between two curves or do optimization or whatever.

It wasn't until i was 20 that i realised that Tails from Sonic 2 was a guy. Since i was a kid i thought "he" was a "she".

I found out while in chat of a livestream of Sonic 2. I said " tails is OP because when playing co-op, she can't die. And that she was hot to boot.

Well i got made fun of in chat for not knowing Miles "tails" power was a guy. I was embarrassed

I didn't know you could take cover in Mass Effect until my 2nd playthrought of the game. Honestly it's not all that important in the first Mass Effect so I still manage to beat it in the normal dificulty, still... I could've paid a bit more attention to the tutorial.

In the original StarCraft when I first played the Zerg campaign, despite foreshadowing as subtle as rock to the face, I had absolutely no idea what was in the Crysalis.
Same here, still makes me laugh that I didn't get it either, the "holy crap!" moment when it hatched... My jaw dropped, was great!

In Soul Music, the main character is an expie of buddy holly, and there's a running joke that he looks like he could be part elf, or as its typically put, 'you look elvish' or 'are you sure you're not elvish?'

It took pictures of the animated adaptation being published, and someone commenting 'wow, he really does look like Elvis' for the penny to drop.
...God...damnit.

It's almost as bad as the thing with Rincewind. Do you know why it says Wizzard on his hat instead of Wizard (with a single "z")? Because he can't spell.

It was the first time I actually facepalmed.

In the second level on the new DOOM game there is this seemingly unreachable stash on an indoor crane. I died so many times trying to exploit the level geometry in order to jump to and vault onto the platform. It was only after I had double jump when I went back and accidentally hit the switch to turn off the vertical cargo movers in order to use them to get to the platform days later during a second playthrough.
