Not necessarily gameplay wise, just name something a developer should do.
-Watch an episode of MythBusters, and see what guns can really do... like penetrate a wall... or NOT blow up the propane tank.

Hmm. I think there's alot of things developers can do, but one from the top of my head would definitely get bullet spray/spread right in Call of Duty games... disgusting really.

Create an anarchistic state where no copyright laws exist and then make games based on Gao Xiang books.

Stop thinking "you know what would really spice up this platformer? A bunch of suck-butt vehicle challenges which have nothing to do with the storyline, and some lobotomizingly tedious puzzle based mini-games that bring the gameplay to a screeching halt until you complete them."

I wish devs would stop putting arbitrary vehicle sections, regardless of genre. If you can't make it so the vehicles are easy to drive, or worthwhile driving (I'm looking at you Crackdown), then don't bloody put them in. You could spend that time polishing better aspects of your game.

Create a fairly good balance of the formulaic content everyone loves and new design ideas and game concepts, instead of one extreme or the other,a s with some of the games that are currently out today.

Evil Genius 2. Seriously, why doesn't Vivendi make it? And Freelancer 2 as well Microsoft!
I would kill for either of those. That said, the reason no one has made them is both Elixir and Digital Anvil, the companies that actually made those games are dead. A little bit of me dies every time people credit genius to the publisher.

TRY to do some cool stuff with the Wii... even if it sucks, just do SOMETHING that explores the possibilities.

Make games where 16 people can fight together online against mindblowingly large masses of enemies (random example: 16 Spartans against a Covenant army, rather than groups of 7 or 8). Of course, I realize this isn't really possible yet at this point in time...but there's always hope...

[Edit: There's, of course, also a chance that games like this already exist, but that my living under a rock has kept me from knowing about it.]

Companies with money, but rehash games, innovate a bit. I think you can take the risk

Use some contrast between color, especially brown levels. Even if your game is suppose to be bad ass hardcore, It wouldn't hurt to give us a memorable sight (Bioshock, Half-Life, Halo)

Make more sky combat games

Stop making WWII games

Don't make games 'diverse' by simply adding mechanics, try to be somewhat original.

Fighting games, stop making us double tap the joystick to run (who walks in those?)

Fighting games, lower your tolerance in the time in which you must hit a button to preform a combo. (hit X then hit Square at either 0.99 seconds after or 1 second after otherwise the combo fails)

PC games, stop being jackass' about copyright

While I'd normally agree, you can't fault Gearbox. They're actually doing something new in WW2. What other game have you heard being placed in Operation Market Garden? I'll agree with this:
"Stop making WW2 games that centre on Normandy, and pretty much the whole D-Day fiasco."

STOP REHASHING OLD GAMES

(leads giant anti-fanboy army to the hills surrounding the EA headquarters)

and also stop giving us gratuitous amounts of bullet time, i know it makes the game easier and all but i like my games realistic

Be more creative and follow less main stream gameplay. Listen to gamers' feedback. And as mentioned, allowed human players to band together and kill massive amounts of enemies.

This is something I really need to get off my chest: How about a FPS based on Starcraft? The idea they had originally for it looked great, but now we definately need a good multiplayer (that's not strategy based. I suck at RTS's). Can you imagine having you and your buddies play as Terran marines fighting off wave after wave of zergs? And when your bunker takes so much damage, you and your squad have to go out into a barren wasteland or heavily foliaged area to find new bunkers to pick up new weapons, ammo, respawn lost comrades, upgrade your unit, and prepare to kill more zergs. You could also switch it up and play as different race's with different soldiers, be allowed to customize your units, and fight in different game styles. Of course, this is only a rought thought.

Do something to the NPC's. I hate it when they're all "new, revolutionary"...

But, what I would love, and would kill for, and will prolly design, is an FPS with music WITH LYRICS in the game. I've always wanted to hear "Hammer to Fall" playing in the last HL2 level or "Unknown Soldier" (By Breaking Benjamin) playing in CoD4 level "One Shot, One Kill".
