Think of something for me to do

Since, as a seventeen-year-old boy with depression and lacking motivation in the summer holidays, I apparently have no imagination, can someone please think of something for me to do to kill some time otherwise filled with boredom? Not books or games. Maybe even just a series of videos engaging enough to distract me for a while.

Have you considered volunteering for a charity? It's like a job, but the pay is worse. Fills up some hours and gives you something to talk about afterwards, what's not to love.

Maybe check out funny videos on youtube. I tend to do it when I am bored and don't feel like doing anything else.

One good series is HISHE.com (How it should have ended) - A series where they do videos about films, shows and games (although mostly films). It's self explanatory what part they are about. It's done for comedic purposes rather than a serious discussion.

I was surprised at this one seeing as they normally tend to keep them within the context of the media in question, but it's very funny.

Another funny series is Epic Rap Battles. There are two channels (season 2 got it's own) - Like HISHE it's comedic, and in this case they choose two historical or fictional people (voted by the audience in previous episodes comments) and as the title suggests, they have a rap battle.

This isn't my favourite but it was the first I saw so it's as good as any (It's from season 2 so a different channel than some of the others).

Alternatively try picking up something new such as a sport or something, but I know how difficult that can be when depressed. Motivating yourself to do anything at all can be next to impossible when it hits you hard.

Get a job!

Seriously though, binge watching tv shows is what I do in my down time when I really want to switch off.

Write, produce and star in a gay s&m porn film called fifty shades of gay.

Seriously get a job, making a commitment to be somewhere at such and such a time will help with the motivation. You will meet new people and make normal human contact every day.

Best way to spend a lot of free time is getting a job. You get money, and work experience at the same time. As for where you work, that's up to you, but work, get some money and save up for cool things!

Masturbate? Drink? Take over the world? I'm not very good at this whole making up someone else's mind. I guess you could take up a hobby or get a job. Or both. Get a job to pay for a hobby. Failing those two, just meet up with friends and do whatever.

Buy yourself a big stack to tv boxsets and kill a few weeks laying on the sofa, eating junk food and watching them all.

Watch some of the University of Nottingham's/Brady Haran's video channels about certain subjects. There's a YouTube channel full of videos about professors and other specialists explaining advanced concepts in Layman's terms. The LHC, recent discoveries in certain fields, Nobel Prize winner explanations, real life applications of certain subjects. Fascinating stuff, I love Periodic Videos (chemistry) and Sixty Symbols (physics), though I hardly understand Sixty Symbols.

Write a short story. Then do not look at it for two days. Then read it. You will hate it. But do not throw it away. Re-write it. Repeat process until you have a story that you like.

Or if your talents are more visual, draw a picture. Then re-draw same picture. Repeat until you are satisfied.

See if the local library needs people to help with re-shelving.

Subdue a wild boar with your bare hands.

If you don't know how to cook, learn. Then volunteer to help whoever does the cooking at your house. This is much more rewarding than it sounds.

Organize a 'day trip' with friends. Go to a zoo, museum or on a nature hike with them.

Do you know what classes you will have in the fall? Can you get a jump on your reading or studying?

Watch the 'Road to' series of movies starring Bob Hope & Bing Crosby.

Ask your father or mother what their favorite movie is and watch it with them.
