Thor: The Dark World Trailer Teases a Bad-Brother Team-Up

Thor and Loki may be brothers, but they ain't partners and they sure ain't friends!

Okay, so maybe Loki isn't the greatest brother a guy could ask for. Be that as it may, you can't tell me that the best thing about this trailer for Thor: The Dark World isn't watching him lord his sudden and deliciously unwelcome importance over everyone around him. He is burdened with glorious purpose indeed!

He also seems to have somewhat nicer digs in the Marvel edition of Asgaard than in what I suppose you could call Asgaard Classic, where he was bound to a stone with the entrails of his son while a venomous snake dripped poison onto him, causing him to writhe in agony until Ragnarok. His joint in this trailer looks even nicer than the one Magneto got, although I bet Thor never stops by to play chess.

But that's neither here nor there - what really matters is that the fabric of reality will be torn apart, and they've only got 48 hours to stop it! Or something like that.

Thor: The Dark World, starring Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Chris O'Dowd, Ray Stevenson, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Eccleston, Rene Russo and that whatshisface guy, arrives in theaters on November 8.

Look like the sequel will be a good step up compared to the first (no offence but Thor is my least favourite out of the Marvel movies well connecting to the Avengers). I will be looking forward to it.

Gotta say, I actually cracked up at the end. That's a first.

Well, color me interested (not that I wasn't) Certainly gives something to look forward to in terms of larger-then-life type stuff.

I think the good sign here is that there is no direct obvious "this is terrible" in the lead-up movies (except Hulk, probably). What I mean is, everyone's got their least favorite, which is rather nice. Thor was my favorite, actually, for some anecdotal contrast. x)

Looks amazing. I saw some of the filming while I was at a conference at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

This trailer looks very similar to the one I first saw. However, this one makes the movie look much better. I wasn't exactly excited for it before, but this one did a good job of making me interested in this movie. And Tom Hiddleson seems to be loving the role of Loki. Every line of his was great. Though, I love Chris Hemsworth's (Whatshisface guy) little "Anyone else?" line at the end.

Color me interested in this movie.

I wonder if we'll get to see one or two innocent civilians actually DIE in this one! I mean New York has only been destroyed around ~5 times in this huge fucking wave of PG13 superhero movies, it's hard to imagine what the total civilian death toll has clocked so far - especially all the deaths caused as a result of structural destruction caused by the superheroes' own actions.

Because I remember walking out of Avengers and especially Man Of Steel thinking "wait so the entire city came under war, buildings toppled, aliens destroyed all the streets with plasma cannons while people were running away screaming - but I didn't actually SEE a single goddamn person get killed. Not even a corpse!"
The awestruck bystanders were either watching from somewhere else as a spectacular piece of destruction happened (just a hundred meters from them) OR in case of Avengers they manage to expertly dodge shit just in time. One scene in Avengers struck me as particularly hilarious when aliens break into office floors and start shooting holes into the WALLS, missing their human targets at point blank range.

This has led me to believe that civilians and bystanders in superhero movies don't actually need to be saved at all, because they're immune from death.

These PG13 superhero movies, seriously...

I frequently find Marvel's version of Loki far more interesting and entertaining than Thor, so him seemingly having a big part in this one has made me significantly more likely to go see it.

It would make sense if the movies were at all trying to make a point on civilian death tolls or the importance of individual human lives and their insignificance to these demi-gods (Yeah yeah Iron Man 3 yeah yeah no it didn't leave it alone he has a flying suit of fuck-allhewantsTONYSTARKPERSONALPROBLEMS)

But they aren't making that point. Hell, all of Marvel movies are mostly just pure entertainment. It didn't make any difference (not really) in Avengers because no one really expected to care. I feel like there's some merit in even comparing this to a video game or any film where large amounts of populated areas get decimated. The Superman thing is a bit different because there was at least some exposition and "seriousness" involved, so it's hard to just gloss over death tolls when the protagonist is supposed to be -the- moral high horse.

I think it's just something a certain brand of movie has done to a point of just avoiding or implying without ever saying, because it's not relevant in the events of near-Armageddon.

I do agree that it would add a sense of scale that would provide some aspect of consequence, but going through that plot-line of having to repent for personal destruction caused by the "good guys" starts to be a little, you know, off-side. They would need a whole movie to work through that since it's too big as a sub-plot for the main attraction.

Also the PG13 thing, I guess.

I liked Thor... I just didn't like the location. It felt very tiny and small, compared to the rest of the Marvel Movies.
Right... but what does that have to do with what I said? o.o

Sorry if I'm making a big deal out of something so minor in otherwise-totally-awesome movies, but it's really difficult to perceive anything as an actual threat once you realize literally nobody is in any danger. Man Of Steel especially is a total mind-fuck because he kills Zod in order to save a family of 4 people and all I could keep thinking during that entire scene was "are you telling me that not a single person died during the Zod vs Superman fight? Really? Really?!"

And of course, who can forget the latest example of The Wolverine, where one couldn't possibly imagine how a set of infinitely-sharp 12-inch indestructible claws managed to become so family friendly. Apparently showing an enemy with their arms/legs neatly chopped off or their bodies in several pieces (y'know, how anyone would end up if they fought Wolverine) would be too traumatic I guess...so the most damage we've seen him do has been to walls or other objects. Never people.

I agree Marvel movies are going for a very high "fun" factor, which I absolutely praise them for because I would still rate all these movies 9/10 (except Man Of Steel, which would get a 6/10 from me due to multiple reasons). But entertainment value should also come with an ounce of suspense or tension, some sense of WEIGHT that ultimately the Avengers are fighting to defend the people who cannot fight.

At this point if we saw a single scene in a Marvel movie of a bloody arm sticking out from under the rubble, or someone getting crushed by the ~1500 cars/trucks being thrown around, it would body-slam the entire audience into thinking "oh shit...so people ARE dying! This IS an actual war! Omg, do something Avengers!". It would make for an interesting shift of tone and suddenly give the actions of Avengers a whole ton of weight and meaning. It will be a message that the Avengers aren't fighting evil for fun/giggles in a dick-waving competition purely to entertain the audience, but are actually fighting to save the people of Earth - people who actually need saving.

Looks like Thor: The dark World is shaping up to be an awesome film. Even though Thor is the hero I think Loki(Tom Hiddleston)steals the show with every scene he is in. I would love to see Loki get his own film.

Personally, I want Jane Foster get killed off in this film and that perhaps Loki should be the one to do or is set up to look like he did it.

Hey she's technically a Goddess, being that level they at least have to be able to hold their own if shit hits the fan :p

All of reality is under threat. I have but one question. Where the FUCK is Doctor Strange! His job is to deal with this kind of shit! (sorry, really want a Doctor Strange movie)

Anyway, this looks great. More loki is always good and it looks like we will get to see a full on Dark elf/Asguard dust up so sign me up.

Just hope that they do away with Portman's character. Normal people just seem boring when dealing with evil from before the begining of the universe and Norse gods. Plus Sif is ment to have a bigger part in this and she is way cooler than portmans character.

That being said if this does not have Idris Elba and Sir Anthony Hopkins side by side, kicking arse and taking names at some point in the movie I wlll be very disapointed.

While they didn?t show people dying, at the ending of the Avengers they did show people lighting candles and pinning notes at a memorial wall so people did die we just didn?t see it.
Ah yes the aftermath...fair enough, fair enough :p

I'm not asking for things to get as "realistic" as Watchmen or Kick Ass, superhero movies full of the sheer blood-splattering brutality and mass-murder of what these fictional scenarios would actually result in - Watchmen shows an extremely grim side and Kick Ass goes for a psychotic-fun factor. There's a reason those movies are R16/R18 (and totally awesome in their own right). But at least throw a bone :p

... Naked Chris Hemsworth back. That's all I need. Is it weird I find backs and shoulders sexy?

Anyways, other than Natalie Portman the movie looks fun. Don't get me wrong, I like her. But just not in this series. Kat Dennings, though... They shoulda made her lead. Her and Chris together would probably be too much hotness to handle, though.

I hear that's quite normal actually. xP Pretty much same boat as a friend of mine.

Actually on both accounts of the attraction and the Natalie Portman thing. Weird.

Y'know, looking at it from that standpoint it just becomes more of a PG13 thing again. If they can't aim at children with these it's a bit problematic I imagine on the whole selling point angle.

All speculation naturally. I have no damn clue what goes on there.
