I think they are a hell of a band and put on a hell of a show live.
Their lead guitarist inspired me to play guitar.

That's really all I have to say about them without going into a shitload of detail

They're sellouts if anything. They can play pretty decent, but their style has changed significantly over the years (I know the vocalist had surgery or some other issue and had to stop the screaming) and it very much seems like they did it to appeal to a broader audience.

They didn't sellout...first of all, M. Shadows voice had nothing to do with their change in style, basically they just wanted to try something new. Shadows once said "Why are we playing this kind of music when all of our influences play nothing like it?" or something like that, and he made a good point. Their biggest influence Guns N' Roses are rock so A7X kinda went from metal to rock but they are still a great band in my opinion.

Xrysthos does not approve! Can't really say I'm much of a fan. It could be a worse, but on the other hand it could be a LOT better.

meh, I say neither, I kinda liked their old music, and then they got hyped by the popular crowd, and now I don't hear much from them lately.

Their music overall is average at best but mostly below average, I think it's because of the lead singer's fetish of hitting whiny high notes (I just don't like it, Like you said the lead guitarist is very good, and I agree to that, but that singer just ruins the band for me). and his stupid name as well, well all of their "band member names".

Okay if synyster gates didn't think he was a punk ass lynyrd skynyrd, I could forgive him. The singer is what I'm sure to be a 6 year old girl.
Did you hear them try to cover "Walk"?.... pathetic.

I never take bands selling out or being saviors all too seriously, people are people you know they do things people do. Personally I like some of their music.

Lots of bands want to change direction with their music because either:
A.They grow/mature musically
B.They want to try something different or explore other directions with their music.

And if fans don't like this they usually call them things like "sellouts." I mean, yeah there are some bands that sold out for money or promotional reasons but just because a band has changed styles or genres doesn't mean their sellouts.

Would you want to play the same genre of games for the rest of your time spent gaming? I think not.

I like City of Evil, and that's pretty much it. The singer is annoying, there's just something about his voice that I can't stand. The rest of them are great musicians, but they all have these annoying stage personas that just get in the way of the music to me.

From what I gather, a lot of people are just bitching that It's Popular, Now it Sucks [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitle6cd1cskka05i?from=Main.ItsPopularNowItSucks].

I actually find them rather mediocre. Aside from Bat Country. The solo in there is pretty well done. Not too fast, and he knows how to place a note.
