THQ Blames Homefront Single Player for Lukewarm Reviews

I think there is still a ton of potential for the Homefront universe in the narrative that THQ could flesh out without having to mass-produce a whole new game. Honestly what I'd love to see is a collection of DLC mini-campaigns (think the Half-Life episodes) which show other parts of the invasion from different areas, at different times, and with different people, not just the first cast. It's obvious from the opening movie that there is a lot going on in the writing that could easily be expounded upon.

Like someone mentioned earlier, how about a mini-campaign about a family struggling to flee the invading Korean force while fighting to sneak over the Mexican border to freedom? What about a separate rebellion against the Koreans by a group of Native Americans on an occupied reserve? What about a troupe of soldiers shot down in a helicopter after a routine patrol by the rocky mountains with little to no supplies forced to survive against the elements as well as massive predators and the occasional enemy scout patrol? What about the battle for Hawaii? What about the irradiated Mississippi River?!

There is simply too much potential for this universe for it to be squandered away as just another COD-clone, but it's gonna take someone with an actual vision at THQ to make this game into a fitting addition to the community rather than another shameless imitator. Still, I remain optimistic.

Short input is short, but, it could have just been that the game you designed wasn't really that GOOD?

They are insane if they think I will buy one more Homefront game. And I doubt I'm the only one that feels that way.

I didn't even finish the single player campaign before uninstalling the game in utter disgust.

It's so sad it's funny. From all accounts Homefront is a perfectly well designed multiplayer game that can stand toe-to-toe with Battlefield and has a few unique gimmicks that work well and are relevant enough to gameplay that people keep it in mind but not so relevant that the game becomes something else. And it was bundled with a silly, loud five-hour story, like most multiplayer-focused shooters on the market. If people came to it expecting a Call of Duty that is actually, you know, good, (or a Battlefield that isn't, you know, evil) they would find a great game. But because they advertised their stupid solo story so heavily people flocked to it and were disappointed. I wonder how much of those sales were caused by morbid curiosity.

So are the servers still full? I think I still might pick this game up before the year is out. Shoot me some gringos and whatnot.

The problem wasn't the SP length. Portal 1 have a pissy small one and it's still fucking awesome, the problem is that Homefront's SP is boring. I mean look at all the advertising that was put into it, even that weird site with all the videos about people living on the occupation.

I second this. All along right up until people release people had been asking questions about the campaign length, and THQ only have now realised that four hours of gameplay is not a good trade off for a £40 game.
Mind you, I don't mind a short campaign as long as it's good, quality > quantity every time, but from what I've heard it doesn't have enough quality to justify the lack of quantity.

I had high hopes for this game but I'm glad I waited for a few reviews first.

"Uninspired" would be an understatement of gargantuan proportions.
I disagree, it was very "inspired", I couldn't find one single bit of the game that didn't remind me of other, better games.
This is the part of the exchange where I nod and say, "Doctor", and you nod and say "Doctor".
Then, we both puff on our respective pipes with a distinct air of smug satisfaction.

I think the reason this game failed is that it didn't do anything different.

It was about a group of macho American's kicking ass whilst being outnumbered and staging a come from behind victory. Explain to me how this is different from any other FPS released?

This had potential - the problem is the gameplay didn't match the premise. The premise was this gorilla warfare, dark, edgy invasion story about a resistance - but the gameplay was no different to CoD. No wonder people didn't give a shit.

I wonder if THQ can see the deserts and the pyramids...

Because they are knee deep in De Nile....

If they can come up with a solution to why the EU has done nothing in response to NK in their universe, I'd play another.
Because the Middle East essentially doesn't exist anymore, and Russian said "FUCK YOU" and started hording their natural gas and other fuel supplies, meaning you SOL on fuel, just like the rest of the world.

Meaning you can't exactly just hop on over and deal with the problem. That you'd still run into the problem American forces have; you'd likely have to land on the East Coast, and crossing the Mississippi River would be a total fuckfest.

The story started ok, with guerilla style fights. But then suddenly it turns back into a generic "walk down the street gunning everyone down" and once it got to the helicopter part I was just pissed.

I saw the title and the first thing that came to mind was "Durr, you think??"

Apparently the multiplayer was really good, but a five-hour-long single-player campaign is just atrocious.

I'm just gonna give myself a pat on the back for not buying this game. I should reward myself by spending the money I didn't pay for it on something cool.

In his review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/8718-Homefront-Review] of the Xbox 360 version, The Escapist's Editor-in-Chief, Russ Pitts, said, "there isn't enough game in Homefront The Game to contain Homefront The Multimedia Concept," which seems a neat summation of the feelings of many critics.
I lost it. :(

Wouldnt it be nice if developers woke up and remembered how us gamers enjoyed well thought out long-ish story lines with more than 4-6 hours of gameplay.

"The Franchise"? We can expect more of these abominations?
I heard the next one takes place in London apparently.
Yaay! Now videogames will have the additional dubious distinction of having started the second Red Scare.

.
3rd.

The 3rd red scare, first one was around 1919.
Thanks. I thought the red scare of the 1950s was the only one. Ya learn something every day.
