Tim Schafer Teases "Something New"

[tweet t=https://twitter.com/TimOfLegend/status/339949950467190786]
The prominent game developer says that the announcement is "not a sequel or a port. Something new!"

Tim Schafer, of Psychonauts and Brutal Legend fame, has teased a brand new game announcement via his official Twitter [https://twitter.com/TimOfLegend/status/339949950467190786]. Furthermore, he stresses that the announcement is something completely new, and is neither a sequel nor a port of any of his previous games. The announcement should come "tomorrow," so we shouldn't have to wait too long to hear what this new game. It's apparently so exciting that Schafer exclaimed he "might even put on new underwear."

Tim Schafer and employer Double Fine recently decided to Kickstart an adventure game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115746-Tim-Schafer-Raises-1-3-Million-Update-Again], an endeavor that proved so successful, Kickstarter announced it was the the fastest-funded project in the history of the crowd-sourcing website. And this was when the game was nothing more than a glint in Schafer's eye, without so much as an official name.

The game has since been named and detailed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122875-Tim-Schafers-Double-Fine-Adventure-Gets-Named], and will be an game about a boy living in a spaceship, and a girl about to be scarified for her village, in the vein of an old-school adventure game. It's official title is Broken Age.

With another new game announcement coming, could Double Fine be putting Broken Age on the backburner? We haven't really heard any more information about it since back in March.

The specification that it won't be a sequel or port is sure to upset fans that have been holding out for a HD remake of Full Throttle, or that long-awaited sequel to Psychonauts.

Ohh? A new thing from our good ol' friend Tim? Well that has gotten me excited already. Hope its something cool and nothing like that Kinect game that they made few years ago.

Tim since when have you done sequels?...

Anyway, Tim Schafer announcing a new game? Forget the new underwear, I'm gonna wear a waistcoat for the occasion.

Are those quotation marks really necessary?
Time zones, man. "Tomorrow" is not "Tomorrow" all around the world. If you're in America, i'm actually already in your Tomorrow, today!

Software development works in cycles and has parts that don't overlap with staff. If Broken Age's development is on track to be finished then that means the writing and art staff need something to do because it's in the hands of the developers. So this announcement shouldn't impact existing titles at all. Back burner or no.

Maybe putting on new underwear is a tease to what the game will be like: It's either a survival horror game or one where the core gameplay mechanic is changing one's undies.

Is it okay to be giddy? Because I'm giddy.

I don't think it's a "Broken Age on back burner" thing. It's more likely that BA is reaching the end of its development and Tim wants to start a new project right away. It might even be to generate buzz before BA's release. Remember that the big "kickstarted title" now is Tides of Numenera, and since all the KS money has gone into development, Double Fine needs a kick from BA sales.

Broken Age is definitely not on the backburner. As a backer I received an update on the game's progress only a week ago.

I can't be the only one to get the impression that lots of indie studios are promising so much but currently have delivered so little. Because that's the impression I'm getting from Double Fine right now. Call me cynical, if you must.

Yeah, they've done a fantastic job on the backer forums. Great updates and all kinds of fantastic videos.

Some really great independent games have been coming out, even kickstarted ones.

If you are a backer on the double fine project and have access to their backer forums then you'd see what kind of progress they've been having and it's a LOT. I'm sure some indie companies will fail at their goals but DF is fully of pros.

I read they always try to the opposite of what their last game was (tone wise). Seeing as Broken Age seems pretty whimsical, I'm expecting something pretty dark.

Scarified? lol wtf c'mon. :p
After a couple of people had pointed it out the typo was obvious but on first read I thought they meant that the girl would be ritually cut to form some mystical pattern of scars.

I would say "make it something wild, like with a telekinectic bear and where you use bacon to make an old man spring out of your head to speak to you", but we hit that level of wild years ago. So please Mr. Schafer, blow my mind [small]and anything else you want.[/small]
