I've had the Orange Box on the 360 for a while, but I just tried TF2 for the first time this weekend (I know, where have I been?). Although I'm pretty bad, I seem to be decent as a scout. Any advice for playing as a scout, or just TF2 in general would be greatly appreciated.

get the PC version, its profoundly better.

real tips:

double jump is your friend, your very special friend that will give you time to get over places no one else can.

-your pistol is great for picking off folks at a distance, dont forget it

-the shot gun does the most damage
-the bat crits the most, multiple hits

-dont be afraid to run away, your a scout, hit and run, its your thing.

sentries WILL KILL YOU
-you can pop off sgs from a distance with yoru pistol

Advice for FPS's in general:

Know when to run away.

As for scout specific, I play engineer, so I can help you with this:

Don't jump when you're being shot at by a turret, it only makes it worse.
The turrets have a large push on anything in the air, so stay grounded or you'll be sent flying- shot the whole way.

I played it once after buying it and the first game I got into, everyone was glitching. I had no fun. Sadly, it turned me off of the game.

Thanks. Problem so far is, I've yet to find all those people who work as a team Tf2's supposed to be famous for.

Scout is a killer class to play IF you play it right. Some handy tips.

1) Ever heard of a Zerg Rush? Scout Rush is the TF 2 equivalent, in capture maps, you can capture points at double the speed; and in progressive captures you can capture the last point seconds after the penultimate one.
2) Boink! Few things are better at dealing with the Lumberers (Pyro, Heavy, Soldier) than a mean scout with a baseball bat.
3) Shotgun. Few people expect a scout to do damage, and most of the rest of classes take a split second to fire their gun at close range. You can just blow most of them away with 2 good PB shots.
4) Pistol. Sniper Time. Staying outside of the range of sentries you can put mutiple shots into an Engineer/Sentry whilst they/it can't shoot back.
5) Double Jump : Practice it. Practice getting to higher ground and confusing the enemy.
6) Most teams advance forward in a wedge and don't back themselves up. A good scout can get behind and wreck all the backups as easily as the Spy does.
7) Keep moving! It's a lot harder to hit a moving target, but not one that runs at a Pyro/Demo or Heavy. Pull out that pistol and pop the Heavy before he gets Natasha ready.

more tips :D

:if your on defense, your best bet it to creep to the enemies spawning area/ wher the fist cap point was "usually it gets taken" the enemy will be sparse here and unexpecting, but your the only one who can get back their with ease, weaken them and disorientate them from this point.

-your not invincible to snipers...they want to kill you the mostest

-you can get past a few sgs "lv1 maaaaaaaybe lv 2" if your smart enough, but its a high risk thing that only works if the sg has a small shooting window.

-aviod tunnels and narrow halwlays, stick to the outside wide open areas.

As a sniper: keep track of who's behind you.
Scout:
never stop running.
Run away from everyone, they're all slower than you.
Always keep a solid object between you and a sniper, he doesn't need a headshot to kill you.
When jumping you are very vulnerable to snipers, use the second jump to change direction.
Avoid taking on engineers by yourself, you need a soldier, demo, spy or sniper to deal with his sentry gun.
Get health at every opportunity, but don't use the medic, he needs to be helping slower classes.

Thanks, but its Sasha, not Natasha.
:p Shows how much you've played. Natasha is far scarier to a Scout :)
Lol Sasha kills you on 2 seconds natasha takes 4 and thats enough time to make it back to safety even with extra slow. As for heavies point blank scattershot does huge damage if you can find one stupid enough to go without medic (if there is a medic try to kill him off while your Sasha teammates own that Natasha noob :D)

Which reminds me...chance of a weekday tournie Danny? Let's get this show back on the road, I've got people I want to burn.
I guess I'm the events organiser now! It'll be a lot more prompt now that we have a permanent server up. I'll ask if I can start a new thread.

Maybe one day we'll expand this beyond TF2, but I'd like to participate at least once. Maybe get some journalism in?

But yeah, I'm on it.
