Ah, what a wonderful holiday on the way. A day when people give gifts to each other to express their appreciation; some consider it materialism and consumerism run rampant. I consider it fun. I especially loved the fact that this year, I actually had the ability to purchase gifts for my loved ones.

This leads to the point of discussion. If you got gifts for your family and/or friends (and they don't peruse this site and know your username), what'd you get 'em? Did you get them this gift because you knew they wanted it or because it held a warm place in your heart and you wanted to spread the joy?

My friends and family have an understanding. My gift to them every Chanukah, Birthday, Etc... is that they don't have to give me a gift every Chanukah, Birthday etc...

I give gifts rarely, and only because I don't want to get punched or shunned. I like to spend my money on myself. Bah, humbug.

Well, for me the equivalent of Christmas is New Year. And i won't buy gifts - i'll make them myself.

May parents basically got everything they need so I usually end up making something myself for them. Like painting a picture. My brother gets stuff that I would get for myself but can't bring myself to buy. Last year it was a LED messageboards for the USB port. My housemates are going to get some christmas food. Haven't decided what to get my exgirlfriend yet. Either a book or a stand for her camera. Maybe both if I feel exceptionally christmassy

Lovely!

(Pun very much intended.)

(Also, I'm not being sarcastic. I do think that's wonderful.)

I don't really celebrate Christmas. Maybe it's because I'm a cold-hearted piece of shit. Or more likely I'll blow all my money on video games. Also because I tend to buy a shitload of things after Christmas when I'm on holidays with friends and family.

I'm not following. You might need to break it down Barney-style for me.

I wanted to get something nice for my friend, but I have no money.
I wanted to make something, but I fail at building.
Now, I'm screwing it all and just being nicer than usual for the season.

I bought my best friend an mp3. She was soooo pissed. But I buy whatever I want, no matter how expensive. Free country!

I bought my girlfriend a silver necklace, my friend a 200kr gift card for gamestop, and my sister got littlebigplanet on the psp.

Now I'm broke, but it was all totally worth it.

Books are fantastic gifts. On the one hand they're easily available and when you get a book someone likes it shows that you considered them. Its a lot of thought without a lot of effort.

Or you can look in the sofa for a little money, go to the store and buy a really cheap butterknife of wood, then go home and hit it with a hammer so it looks really ugly. Then say that you made it. Works perfectly.

I am not completely familiar with Barney... do I have to get in a dinosaur costume and sing?

I should really have made it clear who I was aiming what at...

Okay, 1st paragraph is at you... 2nd is at the person you quoted.

EDIT: All in jest, of course... tis the season to be jolly after all, and what is more jolly than making jokes about prostitutes? Nothing, exactly.
