Titanfall Leak Reveals Respawn's First Game

Titanfall, the debut game from Respawn Entertainment, is a multiplayer-focused shooter for the Xbox and PC that makes "extensive" use of the cloud.

Revealed by a Game Informer leak on Google Play, Titanfall will be the first game to come out of Respawn Entertainment, the studio founded by Infinity Ward top men Jason West and Vince Zampella following their acrimonious split from Activision. The article about the game has since been pulled but according to NeoGAF user Cartman86, Titanfall will be exclusive to the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, and will rely heavily on the cloud for physics and AI calculations and dedicated servers. There will be a single-player mode of some sort but the focus is on multiplayer, with both campaign and "traditional" multiplayer modes on offer, and there will be robots! Big ones, too: "hulking 24-foot tall mechs," according to the post.

The team apparently decided to stick with just the Xbox One and PC - another studio is handling the 360 version - because developing for the PS4 at the same time would put too much strain on the studio's limited resources. The article also states that while the new Xbox actually has less RAM than the PS4, "it potentially makes up for [that] in cloud computing," and that it would in fact be impossible to do what the team is attempting without the power of the cloud. Titanfall is being built on a modified Source engine and aims to capture a District 9/Blade Runner "vibe," with a Left 4 Dead style of storytelling.

In response to the leak, publisher Electronic Arts tweeted [https://twitter.com/EA/status/342733168966774785] that "there's a lot more of Titanfall to be revealed," and said the game will be properly unveiled to the world during the company's E3 press conference, which will take place at 1 pm PDT on June 10.

Looks interesting. I am curious to see what comes out of e3 in regards to this, because if they want to reach as many people as COD MW series there will have to be an extensive unlockable/upgrade system which might prove cool when It comes to robots.

If I do end up with an X1, This might be a fun one to play with friends.

It doesn't matter how good it turns out to be. It could be the greatest game ever that cured cancer and gave out free blowjobs and icecream, but it's all for nought. It's always online, and it's being published by a company that has recently proved why always online is the biggest distaster to ever happen to gaming.

Yeah, I'll pass. Then again I probably won't be missing out on much. "We used to make Call of Duty!" isn't something that gets me excited, and if it's being published by EA then by default it already has to be a generic piece of shit.

MP focused shooter... I never conceived of such a thing. And the cloud handling any part of a game is pretty much proven to be a bad idea at this point. It's amazing what a name can do for a game. These guys left Infinity Ward, wandered off and created COD with mechs. Seriously, if it had been anyone else you probably wouldn't have heard about this game, maybe not even when it was released. Game journalists have short memories.

Where the hell did they get that idea from?

publisher Electronic Arts
Oh.

Did Infinity Wa...Respawn not read anything about the SimCity fiasco? Not only that but they're going exclusive with Microsoft. They really don't want people to buy their game.
