Titanfall Multiplayer Campaign To Last "A Couple Hours"

Titanfall's optional story elements won't take long to experience; no more than a few hours in all.

Respawn Entertainment knows that people aren't excited about Titanfall because of its gripping social commentary. People are excited to punch giant robots in the face with other giant robots, and that's fine. Granted, the lore looks fantastic and the somewhat unique multiplayer campaign will almost certainly be worth experiencing, but it's not going to take up your entire tour of duty. Heck, it might not even fill your first playing session: the story elements can be completed in just a couple hours.

Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella gave a breakdown on the concept of Titanfall's multiplayer campaign. "It's about looking where people spend most of their time," he explained. "Generally people will burn through a single-player campaign as fast as they can ... For us, it was about pushing the boundaries of what multiplayer is. Let's take all that great single-player stuff and build up the world. That world that you're going to spend a hundred hours in should be the most full-featured."

The story elements are tie in directly with multiplayer matches, so the gameplay experience won't be terribly different whether you're playing the campaign or not. "A couple hours" should be enough to see the whole story from one faction's perspective, but you can get a unique story from both sides of the conflict, doubling the amount of narrative.

Titanfall will be ready to drop for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on March 11.

That is why I will not be playing the game. I want a game I buy to be able to justify it's purchase price on the offline single-player alone. Since this has no offline single-player campaign whatsoever then it is just not worth it as once the multi-player dies the campaign will also be unplayable

Given the massive popularity this game has been getting (myself included), I wouldn't be surprised if peoples interest in the lore of the game would cause the developers to make a true standalone single player campaign. As long as they don't try to shoehorn in multiplayer into that (since, duh, we already have multiplayer), there's reason to believe it would be a pretty length experience. Hell, I'd buy it, assuming they give me a story interesting enough to play without sacrificing in the gameplay.

It's the same as Battlefield 4. I ripped through the campaign in a couple of hours. It's the multiplayer that keeps me coming back.

A few hours? That's disappointing; the game has moved a notch or two further down my "must buy" list.

every bit of news on Dark souls 2 also says that 360, os3 and pc version release on march 11, despite the fact we know the pc version release later. we don't know when, just sometime before the end of may and not on the 25th of april.

OT: i am slightly disappointed because they said at some point how both factions have valid points to make about stuff but the not-militia are basically just the murderous corporate douchebags we know and love.

i play it for MP purpose anyway. sure not nice to have such a short campaign but since its MP based as well, i guess it will be pretty similar to L4D.
dint even finish the campaign of BF4 because DICE screwed it up with their patches that i have to start all over again.

Titanfall is the kind of game that you either buy for its multiplayer or you dont buy at all. Im sure plenty of people have never actually played Battlefield singleplayer, ect. actually, couple of them confessed so in this very forum. Heck, i remember meeting people in San Andreas Multiplayer who have never played the singleplayer game, and the multiplayer there was just a mod.

Then again if your like me that think a game has to stand on its singlepalyer you wont be buying titanfall so theres no problem to begin with.

This is fine. I no more want a tacked single player experience in a primarily multiplayer game than I want a tacked on multiplayer in a single player game. I play different games for different reasons, and games are generally better when they have a tighter focus, or at least they're not squandering resources.

Looking forward to rodeoing some Titans next week.

this is one of the few instances where it seems fair enough to be honest. the game is not meant to be single player, and judging a game like this on its SP would be like judging a fish at climbing trees

Its kind of like Unreal Tournament or Team Fortress, do we really want a single player? Unreal has a mainly singleplayer game, and while it was good, it just needed to be its own thing instead of a single player portion of a multiplayer focused game. When you start making what is at heart a multiplayer game trying to make it work as a single player wont probably be all that great, you either go full multiplayer or full singleplayer. Some games can work with both well but it is usually harder to come by and for a new IP I would rather them focusing on one aspect, in the sequel let them tweak the whole concept so that it works well too on the other mode.

I thought they were going for a sort of dynamic mini-campaign as in connected individual matches? If that is not the case,...

The story elements are tie in directly
... son, I am disappoint.

Honestly this is good because I don't want any shitty single player campaigns tacked onto what would be a multiplayer experience, tired of shitty shoe horned good vs evil army war stories in military FPS games these days.

Fi you don't want to get the game because it has no single player then that's totally fine, just don't rag on it because you decided not to play it.

I kind of figured this was going to be the case. Oh well, at least their honest and upfront about the "campaign" being short and multiplayer only.

Sadly, to many people, including games media, aren't seeing where this practice is going to lead. That being: a glut of mediocre, online only multiplayer games charging full AAA prices. What's worse is that since Titanfall is published by EA it's only (probably) going to be 18-24 months before the servers for Titanfall are turned off. This will probably happen around the launch of Titanfall 2, then everyone that bought it will be stuck with a $60 coaster and no ability to play the game. The reality is Respawn/EA are charging full price for half a game and people are licking their boot heels for it.

In 2-3 years, when this becomes standard practice for the FPS genre, so many people are going to complain about how the FPS genre has stagnated even more than the CoD era and how it's effected the rest of the gaming industry. Whine about the loss of a lot of single player experience and say "Where did all the good games go? What happened to quality experiences?" Then, those of us that clearly saw where these practices were going to go, get to say "You are a part of the problem, not a part of the solution. You thought this craptastic practice was a great idea and went out in droves to buy Titanfall and made it the next CoD type franchise. It's not so awesome, cool, or epic now is it? In short, we told you so."

It's practices like this, and the reporting that has gone on around Titanfall, that make me fear for the future of gaming. It's conditioning people to become apologists for mediocre games (and their devs), wretched business practices and accepting of mediocre quality games becoming the new "Good" or "Great".
