TLDR is getting ridiculous

I start to lose all faith in humanity with all these posts that are five lines long and add a TL;DR: to the end. TL;DR is for walls of text or at least a post with more ideas or concepts in it than one opinion. We can deduce that you didn't like x from the first 3 words of your post!

Frankly the idea that posts that are barely a paragraph are too long seems to say terrible things about our reading ability, or at least attention span. If you're really pressed for time, skim read. If you're not interested by sentence two, just skip it. The first thing you learn about making a cohesive argument is having an opening statement to draw someone in.

Please back me up here Escapist.

EDIT: Sigh... fixed spelling. Probably another reason to lose faith in humanity. The little red line and auto-correct have ruined my life.

Teal Deer buddy, teal deer.

Thing is that people can be incredibly lazy and feel that they should be given something without too much work on their part. I blame Valve.

Captcha: your forettor. Why my forettor? Why not his?

Yeah, I agree about the wall of text bit. But what is TL;DR? I haven't seen it used before.

Yeah, having a TLDR for a couple sentences is kind of silly, but so is your misspelling if ridiculous. Yet neither of these things are actually hurting anyone, so perhaps it's best to just let it be.

Too long; didn't read

Meh. Its all in the original poster. If you assume that someone isn't going to entirely read it, you should add a tl;dr. :\

Sorry, what was that? It was so long I didn't read it.

Walls of text can be daunting and are usually a boring rant. Some people need to learn to paragraph. Others need to not be so damn lazy. The door swings both ways and hits someone in the face whichever way it goes.

I think TLDR is a flawed idea from the off. If you're at the point where you feel the need to introduce that in a forum post, you need to start learning how to write more concisely.

Wasn't TL;DR originally just something people said when they couldn't be bothered reading the OP, but wanted to respond anyway for some reason?

Frankly, if people can't be bothered reading the OP, they shouldn't be involved in the discussion anyway. Putting a TL;DR on the end of your posts is just inviting people to argue with you without even understanding what you said.

Heil! I was going to mention that too. The fact you ninja'd me made me laugh though.

TL;DR: I laughed at your post.

OT: I don't think I've ever seen anyone "TL;DR" for only a few lines... but maybe that's because I don't come on the forums as much as I'd like to.

I agree though, it seems totally retarded.

TL;DR: using "TL;DR" for a post of only a few lines is silly.

EDIT: Damn...ninja'd in the space of about 5 seconds. TWICE!

TL;DR: ninja'd.

Hah! oh shit. That's a facepalm to be sure. Sorry, I always manage to misspell something.

Well yeah, It's definitely not hurting anyone. I'm mainly joking. Just saying: use it responsibly.

I agree.

Tl;DR: In my personal honest opinion, you are right on the money.
Would you like a cookie or some bacon as a prize for your hilarity? XD

To actually contribute, I think that if it's that short it's ridiculous, but sometimes it's nice to have a summary. Sometimes I just can't be bothered to read a long post because I'm either running out of time or just feeling particularly lazy.

But only if it's a long post. Five lines, you better be making a TL;DR to be funny or ironic.

Exactly. That's all I mean. Instead of appending a TLDR, just have a better opening sentence. Either you will catch them, or they have the bare minimum of your argument already.

TL;DR - because writing 'too long, didn't read' takes forever...

...which is true, I started this post in November 2008...

You know the Greeks said something similar about writing. It'd kill the human's ability to remember things. Well luckily they were wro... rong? Damnit I know this...
