If Oblivion was a huge jump forward from Morrowind, I'm glad I never played Morrowind.

Opinions and all that, but Oblivion was horrible. Mind you, I never played it with mods, but I didn't use mods for Fallout 3 / New Vegas, and they still rocked.
I'm gonna make a second recommendation that you should play Morrowind :)

It might not look as shiny as Oblivion (though the UI was much better) but it had so much more depth and atmosphere.

And if you're on PC there are some mods that will make it look a little better.

This seems like a real class act, from a studio that seems fond of real class acts. My hat is off to them.

Oh, and guys? Can we seriously shut the holy hell up about which one is better, Oblivion or Morrowind? I love both equally, for different reasons. It's okay if someone likes Oblivion better! It doesn't make Morrowind any lesser a game.

Maybe Todd Howard is being a bit modest, but I guess will have to find out when November rolls around. From what I've seen so far there is much improvement to be desired, but if the game director doesn't think its as big as it looks then let's hope it's just modesty.

I'm surprised with all the lack of motivation here. :/ The Elder Scrolls games are not just suppose to be mass action void of bugs. (Either intentional or not.)
The fact that The Elder Scrolls games just immerse players into a game world where they are able to inreact with, change as well as be a part of. That's the main idea they put up for Fallout 3 but it wasn't the only thing that made it popular.

To me, it doesn't matter if combat is important. You spend too much time focusing on one aspect of the game while changing EVERYTHING they done in the previous. (Via' Dragon Age 2) Downgraded and depraved. But with The Elder Scrolls, they are able to go beyond boundries and limits by giving the characters everything they can focus on and become part of that game world. They focused not only the combat, but the NPCs and their AIs, the gameplay and UI menus, skills anda bilities that you can use at a whim. Story and lore to explore as that character, learning about that world your taking part in. Everything a part in The Elder Scrolls is what makes the game fun and addicting. (I remember clocking in THREE MONTHS into Oblivion with nothing but exploration, side quests and reliving the story over again. And I clocked an additional two when I play Morrowind.)

Games like The elder scrolls give a more beautiful intake of games and the world, implimenting creativity and improving what they missed in the previous installments. Bethesda isn't one to dissapoint me really. The games they make give variety, interest and depth. Which is the very same that made me put my time into the magnificence of Fallout 3.

Sure, it won't be a huge jump - but here's the thing: It's a jump in the places that matter. Less "bigger textures" and "higher polygon models," more "better faces," "environment shadows," and "cleaner art style." And with modding? The areas where Skyrim ISN'T a generational jump can be quickly and easily expanded upon by the ardent modding community.

On PC, of course.

So no, I'm not worried at all about Skyrim's graphics. That is all.

If I like anything better about Morrowind, then it's the setting. It feels so exotic and the atmosphere is totally otherworldly. Oblivion's was, however, much more standard to your usual medieval rampage. Other than that and the art style which certainly suffered in the switch despite the graphics being better, I still prefer Oblivion over Morrowind.

Unfortunately I doubt they'll do anything like that in Skyrim, but who knows how it'll work out?

Todd Howard is a douchebag. He should just shut up and learn how to make an actual game. Or take something to get an adult's voice. Looks like puberty didn' arrive.

Like the guy from the facebook comments says:
Oblivion was a leap forward from Morrowind?
It wasn't. It was actually quite a few steps backwards on the game play front. Minus cliffracers=good. Plus leveling up enemies=bad. To say nothing of the less imaginative world.

I cant complain. Sure, within the next two years we'll be HEARING about the next generation, getting to see the consoles and know their names and such, but its going to be a year or maybe two after that before we even get a release date if memory serves on how the last gen was introduced. I'm not keen on waiting the majority of a decade for a game, half is fine, so I'm not surprised to see how the game's not going to be as big of a leap in innovation. It's common sense really. Still a pretty reasonable and agreeable situation.

I'm willing to accept Skyrim being less of a leap forward compared to Oblivion so-long as it's good enough to make-up for Oblivion existing in the first place.

The only upgrade Oblivion has over Morrowind was the graphic engine, because, Morrowind last longer, Morrowind had better melee skills, Morrowind had Crossbows, Morrowind had more clothing accesories... And I recall Fallout 3 and New Vegas limiting clothing to full suit, hat and googles... and the main map of the size of Shivering Island...

Every new installment has less stuff than the former it seems...

Oh, Fallout had guns, that's a plus I guess...
