Let me preface this by saying that I am in full support of LGBQT rights. As this post will technically against people of LGBQT nature, I want to say that this post comes not to attack the sexuality of the LGBQT community, but to critize how it has responded to a recent event. In addition, I hold no complaints against the original guy who I will be talking about, as the results are probably not what he expected.
So, because the only mainstream news Nintendo will receive is news that convinces others to not buy Nintendo products, there is a huge non-issue blowout about the upcoming game Tomadachii Life for the Nintendo 3DS. Now, for those not in the know, Tomadachii Life is a life-simulation game that explores relationships with traditional Japanese and Nintendo humor mixed in. For a better idea of the game, please look at the video below
This game looks like fun and an interesting way of playing: by relatinoships. However, a video gamer by the name of Tai realized that this game would not allow same sex marriages. He made a video with the hastag miiquality asking people to tell Nintendo to allow same sex marriges and to still support the game as even without same sex relationships, he would like to see the series continued so this issue could be fixed in later games, if not this one.
What he probably didn't expect was for the mass media to catch up his story and paint it in a way that makes Nintendo look like a bigoted bad guy nor for the LGBQT community to declare Nintendo sexist and swear of Nintendo products.
If you follow any other article sites, you may have noticed titles such as "Nintendo refuses to acknowldge gay people" or "No Homosexuality allowed for Nintendo." In said blantedly false articles, they state that Nintendo has refused to change the game to allow same-sex marriage (not realizing that coding isn't something that simple) and that Nintendo fixed a glitch that allowed same sex marriage (also false). In fact, IGN, of all places, is the few websites that actually sat down with Bill Trinen to see what the issue was. The Link to the intervew is below, but he said two important things. First off, that the glitch that was fixed involved unplayable save files that happened when someone transfered a character from the DS versino of Tomadachi and the homosexual stuff was a side note of how some Japanese gamers got around there being no homosexual option: by cross-dressing.

Now, once again, I must say that I'm not against the Miiquality guy. He actually has a goal that is reasonable: get Nintendo aware of this issue and see if it can get fixed for this specific game. Hell, he even says to still buy the game even if they can't because they can fix it at a later game. Bill himself says as much in the IGN story. My problem comes from the people who read the articles and thought "Man, Nintendo is evil! I'm never buying their product again." The people who are confusing Ignorance with Hatred and might very well result in the opposite effect for this game. What are your opinions on this mess?
