OP Lara doesn't have an air of vunerability even in the first game she went one on one with a T-rex with dual 9mm's.
Lara as a character in the original 4 was fairly bloodthirsty

I haven't seen the movies or played the games much so I don't know, but I feel that character development is definitely important in all formats.

Only if Chris Barrie reprises his role as the butler. It's almost the best role he's played... The best of course being Rimmer. But yeah, I think the second film was better than the first but neither were brilliant. It could work.

Because rebooting video game franchises just works so well, isn't that right Chun-Li.
They managed to make a 6 foot Wolverine work, make a watchable Watchmen film and three reasonable Spidey films; if Dan Lin gets people on board who actually know their stuff, we could be in for a treat.
Did you notice how none of those movies are video game movies?

Did you notice how all have become movie video games?

i didn't mind the movies, the games didn't really have all that great character development

it was mostly solve this puzzle, get item or get screwed and then on to the next puzzle

I'd say some of the later Spidey games were very good.

Angelina's acting was fine, it was the script and direction she was given that stunk, but considering the material they were working off of doesn't really lend to true movie storytelling, then perhaps everyone's excused. Frankly the studio thats greenlighting this project needs to take a moment and go, "OMG! What are we doing? STOP!" But they won't, and the money they lose on this will hurt future movies that the studio tries to do. When are studios going to stop and realize that game movies are NOT moneymakers? There is only one movie based on a game that worked: Clue. If a studio were to pull something that good off again, I might....

....express a moment of brief surprise. No, its not worth getting that excited over to go so far as make a Yahtzee promise. Nothing is perfect, and one person's concept can be another person's endresult of a triple burrito with tequila night.
And games based on movies have a better batting average than movies based on games. Movies based on comics, on the other hand, do even better.

Fair enough that Hollywood aren't known for their intelligent but strong and flirtatious females, but it's been sometime since we had Lieutenant Ellen Ripley that I think it could happen. Look at Charlise Theron in Monster, there's proof it can be done.
All those points are debatable, especially that one about Watchmen. Also I would hardly call Aileen Wournos an 'intelligent and strong flirtatious female.' You knew that Monster was a based on a psychopathic prostitute, right?
Yeah, I did. I'd say that a psychopathic prostitute filled that role quite well. Probably not a great role-model though.

I kinda hang with Yahtzee
*look of sarcastic surprise*
on Lara Croft, as well. She's an over-priviliged rich-***** that basically tries to beat the bad guys to archaeological treasures so she can steal them first. Something of a morally ambiguous 'hero'.
Riiiiight, and Gordon Freeman/Master Chief/Chell/Zoey are so much better?
Scientist who watches others die after putting the world at risk.
Marine who's the only one ever to survive certain missions.
Scientist's daughter who smashes up machines.
Rich college student that sticks with three other strong men.
If it wasn't for the boobs, she would be just another villianess.
Again, Zoey (L4D)/ Chell.
And no, I never saw the movies, because they were based on videogames and we all know how that goes. Ugh, I still remember Super Mario Bros. Who could believe that a movie with Bob Hoskins, John Leguiziamo AND Dennis Hopper could suck so hard?
So...you're condemning something based on what might have happened in the movies? Don't you think that's a wee bit irrational?

I've got a feeling that the idea to restart the franchise may be a bad one. Why can't Hollywood just let bad things go...?

lol, "Angelina Croft" was the name of a short lived porn star.

There's no reason that Tomb Raider can't be as compelling as Indiana Jones or Underworld, some of my favorite movies. Obviously they'd need to flesh it out beyond what the games cover, but as a starting point the character and concept is sound.

But until I see a good trailer with a good plot premise and a better actress (preferably an unknown) then all I have to say is "yawn" to Dan Lin.

If Hollywood really has to re-boot the Tomb Raider franchise, can they at least use an english actress... Rhona Mitra would do very very well, She's hot as hell, she's english and she has actually BEEN one the people used as a Tomb Raider model at game conventions.

Lara croft was only good because Angelina Jolie was hot.
Yes, and this will be the reason many guys, including myself, will probably go to see it.
