Tony Hawk Confirms Tony Hawk Revival

According to Tony Hawk, skateboarding games aren't dead yet.

Though industry executives have claimed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105794-EA-Music-Gaming-Will-Return-But-Skateboarding-is-Dead] that the once mega-popular skateboarding genre is dead, Tony Hawk says otherwise. The skateboarding legend has confirmed that more Tony Hawk games are on the way possibly as soon as 2012.

PixelatedGeek snuck in an interview with Hawk at Legoland for the launch of a Lego Star Wars [http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Star-Wars-III-Playstation-3/dp/B0037UCT7C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1302270711&sr=8-3] exhibit. Hawk revealed that he's "in the middle of making a whole new plan right now" for the Tony Hawk series.

"We're going to do something probably for next year, but I can't give too much away," he added. "Definitely, we're going to make new games, yes."

So there you have it, the Tony Hawk series is not dead, despite what may have been an overambitious direction for the poor reviews [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105375-New-Tony-Hawk-Suffers-Humiliating-Launch].

Sometimes you've got to hit a low before you can make a revolutionary change though, which might be what Hawk has in mind for future games. There's still plenty of room for skateboarding games to innovate. The best idea would probably be to combine the massive trick-lines of the Tony Hawk series with the focus on realism of Skate [http://www.amazon.com/Skate-3-Xbox-360/dp/B002QHDKE8/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1302270727&sr=1-4], or perhaps separate modes for each. Fans will probably take a look at the new games just as long as a board peripheral isn't involved again.

I did like the Tony Hawk games, up until that one where I ended up having to ride a bike for some of it (I can't remember the name of it since it's been hidden away with all my unplayed games for eternity)

The THUG games where pretty awesome though... More of them could be great.

Do you remember how awesome Tony Hawk's 1 to Tony Hawk's Underground were? Just make any new games like that with today's graphical capabilities, I reckon they would sell well. Ride the nostalgia wave instead of shoehorning in irritating peripherals.

Though I used to love the THPS/THUG series, after American Wasteland, I lost all enthusiasm for skating games. They're something I can't really imagine myself buying anymore. To be honest, I'd probably only re-play the older ones for nostalgia reasons; anything else would probably spoil them for me (kind of like Project 8... don't get me started on that).
If they went back to the series' roots, though, I might be more interested...

I agree with most here, go back to the root of the series. The type of game play that was fun and not tedious. We don't need to be doing stupid shit to be a "pro skater" in the game, we don't need to be making our own boards and zines and titles. Forget all that shit, it's not what skateboarding is about. It's about going out and having fun at what you are doing. To some it's a profession but to the majority it's just plain fun or exciting to do.

We need to go back to the times where the levels were creative. They didn't have to make sense they were just nonsense and designed to be chaotic and have an impact on the fun to be had. When the only mission was to explore and do what you want, get high scores to unlock new zones, collect various stuff. This is what we need to get back to, the realism factor is not needed there is no fun in tipping a board to do tricks. Get rid of the idea that realism is needed in skateboarding video games and we are back on track.

The underground series is where everything took a turn for the worst. Let's forget about it and move on.

Tony Hawk is a douche, really he is. But tony hawks pro skater 1 & 2 should be remade in HD with thier OG music tracks, those were the best.
