I don't tend to read more than 5 pages, and so if wouldn't read it , it feels redundant to post.
This is going to be interesting if this thread gets to 4 pages are people are writing "I only read the first few posts" :)

22 posts already? I won't answer!

No, it really depends on the topic. For example I read all the ghost stories from the recent thread (although I feel I shouldn't have, I now want to turn all the lights on at night) but I probably wouldn't read even three pages here because it's mostly opinions.
So, I guess I'd read far more story-posts than (especially short) opinion-posts.

Posting in a thread is a completely different thing I decide spontaneously.

That's only the first couple of pages?

I don't tend to post after the 5th or 6th page, simply because it's highly unlikely my opinion will be heard through all the other conversations that tend to form past that point.
Thats kinda disheartening though, you make a joke of such epic proportions that everyone just ignores, I feel like rage quitting sometimes because I haven't received the attention I deserve.

Then I throw my keyboard at the monitor.

I actually think that a lot of the time, if you're past the 20th post, most people won't read it.

If you get the last or first post on each page after though, then people will read it then, but not when you're buried under the hordes of other posts in a single thread.

That being said, I still post in a thread regardless of how many came before me.
I used to have a rule that I wouldn't post if there were more than 20 posts before me because I couldn't read more than that without getting bored.
But now I just throw my hat into the ring, regardless.

However, its better if you find a thread that interests you early on and stick to it, because then you can really get involved with it.

I don't post in anything longer than 3 pages. Unless I'm replying to someone.

Yeah, there's no point in posting further than 3 pages in. I wonder if any one will read this?

Agreed.

I usually read the first two pages. If a topic is really interesting then I'll read the whole lot.

I generally don't bother posting in anything above 3 pages. There's just no point. Especially if I've seen someone else post something similar to what I was going to say.

Now I'm just waiting to see how long this thread gets. Heh.

I only usually read the first page, then by then I'd have found a post which mirrors my opinion and contently move along. If not i'll post. I prefer to not post in anything with moar than 4 pages or anything thats moar than a day old.

I'll read up to maybe, 30 or 40 posts (I read FAST!). I think it hardly fair to post without reading and appreciating what others have said before me, so if a topic goes beyond that number of posts, I'll rarely post.

I like to think maybe, if I read and understand others' points of view, others might read mine :)
I tend to have the same policy, which is why I never post in threads that are 10+ pages, and usually not after the 3 page mark. I like to think that if I'm going to post, I *have* to have read all the other posts, otherwise there's a good chance I'm bringing up a point that has been discussed already (and/or be ignored).

I post in any thread regardless of length. Most times massive conversations start up on the later pages.
This is actually another reason i don't like to post in those 10+ page massive threads. Often times the 10th+ page is full of posts quoting other posts, etc, reaching as far back into the 4-5th page. So you either have to slog through the entire thread just to inject an opinion, or you have to do everyone the disservice of not reading their opinion before you post yours.

Thanks for all the feedback all, nice to know I'm not the only one who gets 'scared' away from posting in massive threads.
Time to lock the thread! Critical Mass Reached!

I've been quoted on a few topics that I posted on a page past 4, so I do think that some people read them after the first page. Remember, there are quite a few people who lurk more than post, and reading entire topics is something that lurkers do.

I post in the forum games where they have to read my posts.

Or on the off topics if something interests me enough, but I don't post expecting a reply.

It really doesn't happen that much, but I tend to not be as willing to post a massive argument of a thread that's already on it's 6th page for example. Most of the time your discussions will start early on in the thread.

I usually won't post if it gets to around 6 pages. Sometimes I'll still read the first few pages though. There's been times where I comment on page 5, and the 3 days later, I get yelled at on page 9. It's surprising that people still read that far sometimes.

Yes, yes they will.

It's a bit hit and miss really. Occasionally you'll attract the attention of someone, and then get into a conversation with them about something. Other times your post will be buried alive.

I have read 150 pages of topics before, nerd rage topics are the best, any superman vs goku etc type thing, where people are arguing to the death over fictional characters in fictional settings like it was serious life and death importance, is immensely entertaining to me.

Generally speaking tho i will read a few to a few dozen pages if the topic is interesting and the posts are interesting. If it is really good i might read the entire thing. Topic has alot to do with how much i generally going to read.
