Total War: Rome 2 System Requirements Revealed

The Creative Assembly has unveiled what PC gamers will need to run its latest game of high detail conquest.

The Total War games tend to be rather large scale affairs. A single battle can involve armies with thousands of soldiers that the player, in turn, can zoom in on to admire as they clash. With the combat involving so many moving, highly detailed parts, you'd probably be correct to assume you'd need some processing power to back the game up. Now, to help franchise fans prepare for the heavy load of the upcoming Total War: Rome 2, the game's developers, The Creative Assembly, have released the title's system requirements.

According to the developer, the system requirements are as such:

Minimum:
OS: XP/ Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Dual Core processor / 2.6 GHz Intel Single Core processor
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: 512 MB DirectX 9.0c compatible card (shader model 3, vertex texture fetch support).
DirectX®: 9.0c
Hard Drive: 35 GB HD space
Screen Resolution: 1024x768

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7 / Windows 8
Processor: 2nd Generation Intel Core i5 processor (or greater)
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: 1024 MB DirectX 11 compatible graphics card.
DirectX®: 11
Hard Drive: 35 GB HD space
Screen Resolution: 1920x1080

With the game's hardware requirements unveiled, we're curious as to how our readers' current PC builds stack up. Personally, Total War: Shogun 2 was the game that showed me just how out date my desktop PC was. Will Total War: Rome 2 be doing the same for you, or will you manage to squeak by and stave off upgrading just a bit longer? Fans everywhere will find out when the game launches on September 3rd.

Intel i7 2600K 3,4GHz CPU
8 GB RAM
Nvidia Gforce GTX 560 Ti 1GB

So... I think it means I barely hit the recommended specs with the most important component (the graphics card). I don't have any problems running Shogun2 on reasonably high settings, but it starts to chug a little if I max everything out.

I'm fairly sure that Rome 2 will be demanding more than Shogun 2, however, so their recommended specs may not quite be what I'll aim for.

I must admit, though, that I'm pretty impressed that my card still holds up well today, even after all this time.

The only part of the recommended stats that beats my 4 year old (medium powered) rig is the processor. I run an AMD Phenom II X4.

Everything else is on par with the requirements.

I would love to see the game running on the minimum specs, i'm sure that's a ton of fun.

The only game i have ever seen capable of running decently on the minimum specs is Call of Duty 2.

Intel i5 3570K 3.4 GHz CPU
8Gb Ram
GeForce 66Ti 3Gb

Guess i am pretty much set.

Now i just need to figure out what, apparently, is such a big deal about this game, look up some trailers and decide if i want it.

I should be fine it seems, but 35GB... that's a lot.
Empire runs at over 20 last time i checked.
I know, I just don't think I've had a game take up over 30GB before. Better set aside 2 days to download the damned thing.

35 Gigs huh? Well only 1 gig larger than my skyrim folder. Overall I'm happy to see the recommended specs are not really high (my computer is dire need of an upgrade, but I just don't have the money for it). Now I just hope the loading times have improved from shogun 2.

I hate when they list VRAM size instead of giving a rough model reference.
Seriously, there are cards with incredibly shitty clock speeds that still have well over 1GB VRAM.

Compared to other Total War titles, I think this one is the least demanding, relative to the available power. Though we have no idea what the GPU requirements are, you can get 50$ cards with 1GB of VRAM, and they won't play shit. Though generally Total War games tend to be a bit more CPU intensive.

My current setup should be able to run it just fine on reasonably high settings, though I'm hoping I'll be able to upgrade my CPU come September to let my dual 6850s shine and max this puppy.

Taking those specs as-are, my laptop easily trounces the recommended.

However, anyone have more info on the GPU required? 1024 mb DX11 isn't very descriptive, and I have a suspicion my GT 630M (equivalent to a GT 555M) will struggle a bit. Still, runs Bioshock Infinite at High quite well.

I lost my pre-30GB cherry downloading Max Payne 3. Thanks to a downloading time more commonly associated with the Trident submarines and that downloading things from Steam basically stops all other medium-to-high bandwidth intensity things on this network, it took me the better part of a week.

recommended does not mean run everything on max with clogged up processes in the background you know.

i actually played quite a few games on comptuers bellow minimum specs and most of them were playable. sure sometimes FPS woudl drop and whatnot, but since most of those games were strategy games, whether you paly at 25 or 20 FPS you can still play it (much ahrder in shooters where you need precision aim)

yep. especially as some graphic cards like to "use system ram if they run out of" and as such report back that ram isntead. like there are programs that show my 512MB ram card as 2GB ram card since it can add another 1.5gb from main memory if it runs out (not sure how it would utilize slower ram efficienty but apperently it can), so less comptuer savy people will get confused a lot. i saw people claim their GPUs had 8 gb of ram and whatnot.

Yep, can definitely do this. That's a HUGE amount of HDD space it's asking for though.
