Trailer: Stoners Battle Aliens Over Weed-Stash in Star Leaf

"Some highs are out of this world"

This is the final weekend for this 2014's Star Leaf, [http://www.americanfilmmarket.com/] an action/horror/sci-fi/drug/thriller hybrid that typifies what the AFM often exists for.

In the film (which does not appear to be an outright comedy, despite the premise,) a group young marijuana [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/marijuana] afficionados follow a treasure-map to a legendary wild "Garden of Weed-en." Their trip, already complicated by a dangerously-unhinged forest ranger and a friend's Afghan War PTSD flashbacks (which they'd believed the fabled "Star Leaf" could cure), turns deadly when they discover that the special plants are extraterrestrial in origin - and their alien creators may be present... and angry.

The film (which, again, is apparently not just a joke) stars Russell Hodgkinson and Kiki Keung and was directed by Richard Cranor, who previously helmed the Asian-American rap-star satire The Life & Times of MC Beer Bong [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R97WJqP1fNM] in 2004.

If this manages to fall somewhere in the vein of Idle Hands, I'd call it a win. Looking forward to giving it a chance though.

Star Leaf kinda sounds like a lame name for space weed. They should've gone with Blazar [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blazar]!

Weird. I'm all for the decriminalization of Marijuana (I don't smoke myself, but 42% of the US prison population, Christ's sake!), but I can't help but feel this will not aid in that. It will be interesting to see if they actually play this strait though. As other's have pointed out, if we get a an Idle Hands or an Attack the Block out of this, it will be pretty awesome.

I feel like we need more movies where the main characters get really fucking stoned and invent something that helps mankind and saves the world (in a serious way). Granted this is only a trailer but I cannot help myself when I think it's just going to be another movie with a bunch of cliche pot references, only fueling anti-marijuana propaganda.

Oh great, yet another cringe-worthy "stoner comedy" that i could barely laugh at even if high...

...No way! it's NOT a joke? How is it even possible to play a premise this absurd completely straight?

I suspect it involves copious amounts of weed.

This is being pushed as a serious premise? Really? C'mon, not even going to give us cameo appearances by Cheech Marin or Tommy Chong? Okay....

This line appearing next to your avatar is sending me contradictory messages.

Compared to sober people, little of use has ever been invented while stoned. There is enough pro-marihuana propaganda in the media already, no need to pretend it is good for anything else than personal satisfaction. Science and invention happens by hard, rigorous work, not through drug-addled tinkering.

This movie will either be really good, or really bad. No middle ground.
I'm hoping it's both.

Some of my favourite films are so bad they're good.

The point of my remark was for people who generally believe that when they see some stoner gets high and does dumb shit, that it's the marijuana that does it. Never really understanding that dumb people do stupid shit regardless if they just smoked a bowl or not. So my logic was if they had a movie where people were doing good shit while smoking a bunch of marijuana those same people would hopefully go, "oh geez maybe I've been wrong all along." Of course this is just silly talk and was never meant to be taken serious. Anybody who believes marijuana is the gateway to hell will never believe anything else.

And yes, of course science and invention happens from hard work and study. Most everything positive in life happens this way :)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0492486/ It's been done before and not well. Drug movies tend to be the most boring of the boring. This looks like it might be good in a so bad it's good way but I seriously doubt it. These films are a dime a dozen. They are banking on the sci fi stoner frat boy crowd that finds the very concept of weed as gigglesome paying 3 bucks on v.o.d. I am just wondering who on the crew Bob knows that he decided to give this free publicity.
