Can't say I'm surprised...

Could work as an RTS, I suppose. Especially if it's set before the events of 'A Game of Thrones', which it seems to be. Aegon Targaryen's rise to power, perhaps?

Guess you could also go up to Robert Baratheon's rebellion. But any further probably wouldn't work. I'd try and avoid overlap with the direct events of books/TV series as much as possible, if I were them.

I was wondering how long this would take, Mr Martin is spinning gold right now .

However, having looked up Cyanide's credentials; obscure titles from a variety of genres and no RTS experience immediately deflated my excitement.

Oh well, I'm no worse off I guess.

Going by this extremely limited trailer, that looks like what it's going to be. I'm a little confused as to when it would actually take place, though. The dragons were all dead by the time of Robert's rebellion, so if it's sticking close to the books the presence of one doesn't make sense. The Iron Throne clearly exists, so it could be Aegon and subsequent Targaryens dealing with conflicts in the aftermath of their conquest of Westeros. Possibly a bit obscure given how little attention this has had in the TV series, though.

The name "Genesis" certainly suggests that it takes place earlier in the timeline, if nothing else.

Well the trailer is vague, and the website basically asks more questions than answers be.

It seems more like its going to be set right before the start of the tv series and focused on Roberts rebellion.

From their website -
"From Nymeria's arrival in the Kingdom of Dorne to the awakening of the "Others" beyond the Wall, you'll live the origins of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga through more than 1000 years of history. From year -750 to year 299, you will take part in Westeros' founding events and largest battles, such as Aegon the Conqueror's invasion of the continent or the War of the Usurper. "

Seems like a big timespan then.

Didn't the last dragon die out a long time before the series is set. Even before the mad king and Roberts rebellion.

But... didn't Robert have the iron throne made after the end of his rebellion? From the swords of the mad kings army?

Granted I've never read the books. (The first one's on my to read list) So I may be missing some major details here. But it looks like it doesn't actually fit into any timeline.

EDIT:

On secondary inspection. That doesn't actually appear to be the iron throne.
Yes, the dragons were gone before that, you remember that there used to be dragon skulls that were moved down to the lower levels (well that's what is mentioned).
Yes, the swords were melted to make the throne, and I thought it was the iron throne as well at first view.

Oh, this just looks like a bad idea and the fact that it has that title is just...doesn't look good. Now a Total war mod with prequel to and throughout Game of thrones, that would be cool I think,

Honestly I'd think of a Mount & Blade mod for GoT over a Total War mod. Total War's so...impersonal. Mount & Blade lets you develop grudges against individual knights even if you're not on bad terms with their kingdom. That sounds more like it to me.

If i could be the others then that would be cool.

I don't think they should make games like this though, the Targaryon's only had three or so dragons, and no one else had them, which is why they were successful. I think its lame when an RTS comes out and you can build multiple dragon riders.

If I remember correctly the Iron throne was made by the first Targeryan King after conquering the seven kindoms, not by Robert.

It could work as a prequel showing the history of Westeros under the Targeryans, but it seems to be a cheap cash in by the looks of it. the qaulity of the graphics seems pretty poor, this coming from someone who detests those who those who think graphics mean everything. When we see the gameplay my mind may be changed, but right now it looks like it'll be pretty bad.

Wow. That was a terrible trailer. No gameplay information AND crappy CGI. What's the point?

I'm still curious about the game, but decidedly less hopeful now.

Well it can't be a bigger disappointment than the last book and the TV show, so I'll give it a try when it comes out

Ok, I'll give you that, that might work.

Hmm, I'm iffy about this game. Cyanide did make the PC adaption of Blood Bowl, which is pretty fun. I don't know about an RTS for Game of Thrones though.
